This facility killed 25 dogs last week because they have no room. The labs are up next. Let's get the word out and save some dogs.

i got this desperate email today. let's see if care2 can help:

" All these labs and lab puppies are going to die...We have a rescue in San Francisco who will take them but we have no donations for pull fees and no way to transport them..WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO DRIVE AND TRANSPORT, MONEY FOR PULL FEES, RESCUES TO SIGN UP TO PULL, NETWORKERS, CO-ORDINATORS, FOSTERS...ETC.... This is so hopeless. We need rescues to step up to help this overwhelming amount of beautiful adoptable dogs are dying there daily....there are too many dogs, no homes, no adopters and very few rescues signed up for this shelter.....This is a crisis and no help in sight. The few who have been working this shelter including myself are burning out is an overwhelming job....please rally for support and funds for this shelter.CONTACT ALEXANDRA AT IF YOU CAN PLEDGE OR OFFER SERVICES.....WE ALSO NEED CRATES DONATED."

I wish with all my heart I was there to help you guys. Have you tried going to the police station and the local churches to ask for help with transportation and donations? Call on people you know to use their networks to get help for you.

Terrible situation.
People can make donations directly to their local shelters. We make jewelry to sell every May-August to raise money to donate.
Every little bit helps.

I am confused by the link. The link takes you to a page about getting postcards for lost pets, not the Devore Animal Shelter.

aah! you're right alison .that's not the web address i entered. maybe they modified it because it was too long. i'll go look for a link. that poor woman needs attention for this shelter. you never know who is going to read what we submit. i got my dog via a care2 member in germany. she was about to be killed in my own backyard, and i didn't know anything until i read it on care2.

SAVE A CAT TOO! 80% of cats don't make it out of shelters alive. Adopt a cat. Please people spay and neuter your pets.

hm, Alison said it, looks somewhat wrong. And just leads again to that "lost pets" site while the new link you provided, Catherine, has a listing of dogs but nothing about the shelter itself. Are you sure these links are correct? I noted, but think I wait before I forward this to not confuse people.

i put up the dog photos since they are the ones about to be killed. looks like there are only about 25 cats. unfortunately, the dogs went from 67 to 54 overnight. here is the link to san bernadino county shelter system, of which devore is a part;

Very sad. There are millions of dogs and cats pts every year in USA plus a smaller number in countries such as UK. (though per head of population the number is many times higher in USA than UK). This is caused by ignorant and selfish owners who 1. do not neuter and 2. neglect or abandon their pet when it ceases to be as convenient / cute / cheap to keep as they imagined.
I so hope that more get rescued. Thanks Catherine.

Catherine, the link still doesn't work. Unfortunately, th is is the situation in most shelters. Few who enter get adopted, m ost get euthanized. It breaks my heart. Edith

Thanks for this information, Catherine. I pray Devore Animal Shelter can get homes for the animals it has no room for and that it can get funding for ddtional space.

thank you all for caring so much. i contacted alexandra and told her she can borrow my large breed dog crates. she said she'd keep me posted. i also heard from the editor of that county's most prominent paper. he said he would look into the situation and possibly do a story on it. i asked him to profile a couple of animals each week to get these dogs and cats moving. people need to see these animals in order to fall in love with them.

I can't imagine those dogs being killed -- puppies too! I think EVERY SINGLE PET OWNER would have his pet spayed or neutered if he/she could look into the eyes of a poor little dog or cat whose life is on the line simply for having been born. But I do have to ask: Just where is this shelter? I went to the site and could find no clue! I think that's pretty important in giving it exposure, don't you?

it's all mixed up in the thread cindy. you can get to the devore shelter via the system of shelters in san bernadino county:

Catherine- I can help with transportation or pull fees. I am not a rescue just someone who loves animals and visited Devore today, was absolutely horrible and heartbreaking. Because of what I saw, I will help in any way possible . Pull fees, crates etc..Let me know what you need. I pulled 2 dogs today, and as soon as I get them fostered or a permanent home I will be grabbing more from there. Let me know!

that's fantastic jen. i don't rescue from devore, but there are a couple of people on my facebook and within my email chain that do. send me your facebook link or email address and i'll try to hook you up. i wish i were closer to devore because that truly is one of the worst. they desperately need your help.

If you have witnessed the neglect and abuse at the Devore shelter, please tell your story to Warren Eckstein. In addition to being an animal behaviorialist/trainer, he is a huge animal rights activitist who can and will organize protests and get the media involved. He is, after all, part of the media with his radio talk show on local radio station am 870 from 11:00 to 1:00. Anybody remember Karly, the German Shepherd who was beat to death by some dirtbag ex LA County Asst Fire Chief? Warren Eckstein was as tenacious as hell in beating down the D.A. on the case, including organizing protests at the county courthouse in Riverside. The ahole who bludgeoned the puppy with a rock was convicted. Warren E. can be a huge squeaky wheel, which is what it takes to cut through all red tape and government beaurocracy. We've all heard about the horror stories about Devore so I sincerely hope the folks behind them will speak up.

Warren Eckstein contact information can be found at
