Remember the "socially conscious" companies of blood diamond fame? Why are they being allowed to openpit mine the Arctic Circle's environmentally fragile ecozone? Where is the environmental outcry?

Arrrgh! Does anyone know if there are any petitions going about this?

I'm sure that environmentally conscious young couples would shun gold and diamond wedding rings, but do they have prestigious alternatives? If a few young movie star couples got married with recyclable environmentally-friendly rings and a lot of hoopla, it could sway millions of young couples to copy their example.

Thanks for posting, Michael. Noted.

I like the phrases being used regarding the ethnic, indigenous people, their involvement and jobs in the press releases by this company. This story has been sold before in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Namibia, SA, and the Congo. Good luck Canada here is an export I am sorry you've received. We haven't been able to understand why the global warming people pro&con, the large environmental organizations or even the small ones and animal activists have all but ignored this exploitation of the Arctic for any purpose other than the adornment of the rich.

Actually, there are environmentally conscious jewelry makers, who are using recycled metals and stones, as well as new materials that are certified to have been harvested in an environmentally responsible and cruelty-free way. I met an independent jeweler who did gorgeous work at a renaissance festival who works that way, and have been seeing a few articles about others in different newspapers.

I'm sure a Google search would find some of them.

I'll be tough and straight to the point: FOR MONEY. Who cares the environment as long as you can get richer and richer? They forget that when they're dead, the same worms who will eat up me ( a poor person), will eat them... They should watch over and over again Ice Age 1 and 2... Hugs! Lince
