Suzanne I hope all who haven't yet done so will take 60 seconds over the Labor Day holiday weekend for this labor of love to protect one of the 7 natural wonders of the world -- and the vast Grand Canyon drainage basin that surrounds and forms it -- from further radiation poisoning by uranium mining. The people and wildlife of the USA's entire Southwest and portions of Mexico are dependent on that water. Three stretches of river are already unfit for drinking, irrigation and recreation owing to radiation poisoning, and huge tracts of soil on several Native American reservations and elsewhere are already contaminated!

Noting and forwarding this post to friends worldwide, and tweets and Facebook posts are greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Suzanne, signed and commented on petition, and noted. The National Parks belong to the citizens of this country. No one has the right to destroy them with noise, oil, or any other thing. We deserve to have the Grand Canyon and all the National Parks preserved and protected from the greed that is destroying everything it touches.

noted and signed. This is just another example of corporate power and greed, backed by republicans who could care less about the enviornment, National Parks, and the American people.

If we don't speak out, stand up and shout, nothing will get done. Look at the tea baggers promoting their own forms of hate and divison. There has to be countered, and soon.

It is maddening that we have to fight so hard to get the government to support issues that should inherently be made a top priority - a government that WE employ. A government that so grossly misallocates our hard earned tax payer dollars on a steady basis. Let's hope they don't drop the ball on this one. Thank you for keeping this important mission in the forefront of our minds.

such fuel and other resources that are mined, drilled or etc seem to be getting harder and harder to locate, which it evident such things are more difficult to locate when such beauty and untouched places are not the target to mine, drill or dig on!
put 2 and 2 together. our fossil fuels and other such energy resources are now being hunted on virgin territories...why is that? because its becoming limited from other places in the world by chance? alternative energy resources is the solutions, we can petition all we want and nothing come of it, for the fact that billions of mining and drilling products are taken to supply the world of the present energy needs. the corporations in which these things are provided will drained and soaked up til dead and dry before any solutions are created.
we new businesses that are creative and resourcful to alternative fuel consumptions to be developed and opened. other wise we are spitting in the wind for all our cries to preserve natures virgin wonders of the world. i did sign both petitions all the same...

It never ceases to amaze and humble me when so many good people come together on a cause. Thank you all so much!!

I feel the need to share a little of why this is so important (to me, at least) in the future of the lives of our children, our children's children and so on...

I don't know that I can fully express how deeply saddened I am when I think of the reality of the devastation allowing uranium mining in this area would cause. Poisoning of the earth and waters is so completely senseless (but then man has proven time and again poor judgment in the name of profit, have we not?)... especially in a situation as this. Repercussions would involve a slow, mostly unrealized, deadly toxic contamination -- life poisoned to death for profit -- only to be realized too late, as in the events of the past from nuclear reactor (uranium poisoning) waste contamination of the very essence (earth) that gives us life. The soils and waters must be protected if the animals, plants and human residents in the areas near and far dependent upon them throughout the upper and lower basins around the Grand Canyon are to be given a chance to live.

We, the human race, are supposed to be able to learn from our mistakes -- but when will we??? When will we learn??? The Gulf disaster, the Exxon spill, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and now they want even more of our precious mother earth's volatile resource, uranium, to build even more nuclear plants around the globe. "Man" is supposed to be regarded as the most intelligent species on this planet... but are we? There is no intelligence in self-destruction. Learn from our mistakes our teachers tell us... but the greed blinds and lessons are ignored.

This is why we work so hard to stop man's inhumane actions against one another, precious life ~ mother earth and all life dependent upon her.

Thank you all from the depths of my heart for noting, sharing, taking part, taking action and making a difference in everything that you believe in!

Suzanne, I couldn't agree with you more. I have often questioned the purpose of historical teachings in schools, in the media, etc., as I have been under the impression that history is a platform from which we learn not to repeat afore-made mistakes. We continuously fail at this, not because we are incapable of positive change, but because our greed and globally accepted mentality of self-entitlement has taken precedence above all else. Even as a lover of astronomy, it boggles my mind the amount of money being spent on space exploration at this particular time, as we clearly have not reached mental maturation as a species. It is confounding and extremely egocentric to search for "intelligent life" in the reaches of outer space, when we have yet to find it on our own planet.

If we humans do not stop destroying mother nature we will have NO future. Humans are a part of mother nature and we need to reconnect with mother nature by the year 2015 it will be to late.
There was a wonderful documentry on National Geo yesterday about this.
There is an energy field that connects us with our enviorment, it is spiritual, we humans have lost our way.
I am reading a book "The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield. Was written in the 90's. A must read for us that want to and are already connecting to our spiritual side.
As individuals we need to come together and make the changes and send energy to those that have their head up their ***.
We can do it! Believe.
The question is not what you look at, but what you see. by Henry Davis Thoreau.

Suzanne, its so great to sip Sunday morning coffee while reading this wonderful rallying of support by so many Care2 friends (including those who inspired the creation of SEN), and also from so many new faces (new to me at least) from around the world, who realize the Grand Canyon is THEIR treasure also. Bravo to all who are signing, noting, commenting and triple stars to those messaging friends and Twittering and Facebooking this crusade!

You really must question the intelligence of the rulers in US. One of its largest tourism grabs and they are going to mine it!!!! Who cant think outside the box?

here is a thought worth checking into...something that i have just realized from signing alot of petitions this week for virgin, natural territories in process of mining or drilling developments.
makes me question whether fuel resources are running out? if the places to locate are getting less and less, and harder to find?
for in the past these virgin lands were not touch, nor ever considered for fuel and earth resources? but now its world wide and such places are being planned to be dug, mined, drilled, etc. ?
so what happens when the corporations of such power and fuel provisions runs out of the products? then we will change to alternative needs more eco friendly and life saving?
horse are being wiped out for oil, tibetins are bing being killed for mining. elephants are being killed for uranium.
so...? are we running out of resources to be found and coporations are going to hold their power to the last drop that mother earth can provide at the expense of life and nature?
