If you've ever wondered why online petition sites are as useless as tits on a bull, here's your proof. I'm sure Bumcheeks Jones will fly from the UK and hold a picket sign in front of Amazon LOL. First of all, anyone can sign the petition multiple times,

Sorry, Carisma, I aimed it at the wrong person. Put it down to me having a severe pain day-I should know better than to try to make sense during this time. I'm gonna go away now and hide my embarrassed head :-(

My bad, carry on Carisma.

I have this nagging story of a messenger gnawing at the back of my head.
Seriously Carisma, I'm sorry.

Thank you Sherry for bringing this to my attention. I believe this person found the petition in my blog. I left him/her a comment hopefully he/she will understand the seriousness of Carisma's very important petition. Carisma I'm behind you 100% keep up the good work.

I have seen Care2 petitions with deadline FIVE YEARS AGO!
Still going on...now, is THAT useless, or what?

Of course they make fun of it, and with good reason. 10 million members on Care2 and this petition concerning Amazon selling books basically condoning the actions of pedophiles gets 269 signatures? It should be an embarrassment to Care2 as well. Many people have screen names that are fun or self descriptive and many post anonymously due to concerns about cyberspace, that is not the true issue here. The true issue is that a petition about concerns of child abuse, particularly child sexual abuse would get the backing of less than .00003% of the members of the care2 community. It IS embarrassing!

I signed it and it's up to 270. It is such a shame that child abuse can't get more signatures on petitions. I am more than willing to sign child abuse petitions.

Have signed petition as well as forwarded. You know, I'm all for animal rights and environmental causes, however it's a sad comment on our society when a petition for animal abuse can get thousands of signatures, yet a petition dealing with child abuse can only get about 200 or less.

And Ben, I agree with you about outdated petitions. Someone at Care2 really needs to get the petition site cleaned up.

I beieve that these petitions are important...and if I see a petition that is an important issue to me and it strikes my heart as important, then I sign it. I know that signing petitions is not doing very much, I live on a fixd income and dont have alot of money to donate...but, I do have a voice and I try to use it to help as many children and animals as I can.

I know that I myself feel frustrated sometimes...I think that we all do...I mean we are all very caring people (that is what we ALL have in common) I even have had thoughts of not signing onto care2 anymore because my heart is so overwhelmed and affected by the stories that I read on here, but, then I realize that ignoring these problems will not make them go away. I NEED to believe that I am helping somehow and signing these petitions is part of the way that I try to help. So please my friends...dont give up on signing petitions, I know that it is frustrating and people are contemplating their authenticity and effectiveness...but, some of them are VERY important and people are working hard to make a difference and they can help if they are used in the right context. Thanks!

petitions are only as good as the petitioners use of it. Unfortunately, petitions for abused children do not get the response that petitions for animals get. That shouldn't be that much of a surprise seeing the first case to recognize child abuse had to use laws protecting animals and humans are animals. please www.defendthechildren.com

Sometimes it looks or feels like we get no-where, but we do!!!
When I started petitions it was over 20 years ago-anyone remember???
They were done at home and mailed, back then we didn't have home computers like today, you had to pay for the stamp and take alot of time writing in your petition comments on paper---YES-PAPER!!!
Back then it was hard to get anyone to take us serious, but now if you look at the years end goal-we probably win 1 out of a 1,000..
At least now, senators and reaL DECISION MAKERS, will comment and write you back sharing their views, WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY!!!
Back in my day HUMAN TRAFFICKING was a bad word-NEVER said by gov. officials--today after a long fight-We have sites and support groups for them and so much more for all our different goals!!
So LET THEM LAUGH and make fun, only in OUR HEARTS and up in CAPITAL HILL do we see the change, Officials even talk to us now-Major change from over 20 years ago!!
And look how many Judges, have even gave harder sentenses for animal abuse-
back in my days, CHILD ABUSE was whispered, now we have programs to help these Children(although not perfect)!!
LET THEM LAUGH, WE KNOW THE TRUTH--WE HAVE SEEN THE CHANGES, FOUGHT A GOOD CAUSE AND WILL ALWAYS MAKE A DIFFRERENCE!!..:):)
CARE2 MEMBERS HAVE A mAGICAL DAY!!:):)

Well, I previously signed this petition. And, yes, I think petitions do help. That's why people have choices, sign if they want to or not, totally up to the individual.
Thanks Carisma.

Don't hate people and Care2 is not your business if you're not a member in other words f off!!! Your comments mean nothing if you're not part of the solution then you're the problem.

Care2 is the most loyal and caring group of individuals with numerous goals conjoining. We are all very concerned with human and animal rights, environmental goals and living harmonious and spititual lives. Petion site numbers may be a small sometimes, but Care2 is ACTION and a large part of the bigger picture.
