Today an estimated 250,000 children are still serving in armed conflict in 20 countries around the world. These “child soldiers” include boys and girls, sometimes as young as six years old, serving as combatants, sex slaves, porters, and mine detectors in government armies, government-linked militias, and armed opposition groups. On April 19, 2007, U.S. Senators Durbin (D-IL) and Brownback (R-KS) introduced the Child Soldier Prevention Act of 2007 (S. 1175) to encourage governments to stop the recruitment and use of children by government forces, government-supported paramilitaries or militias, and rebel groups. Write to your U.S. Senators and urge them to support S. 1175.

It's devistating what these children go through and survive. While I was posting this story my 6 year old son asked, "Mom why does that little boy have a gun?" He just looked at me like I was crazy when I tried to explain it. It was such a foreighn concept, he couldn't wrap his mind around it. It must stop.

These children should be playing ball not playing soldiers. Sad that their innocence and joy of childhood have been stripped away from them.

I went to the site and signed the letters. Thank you for drawing my attention to this issue. I have been a soldier myself. It is not something to submit children to.

This is so sad. These children deserve to have a childhood that isn't about killing and trying not to be killed. Noted/Shared.
