Just plain ridiculous. How could anyone possibly object to a sweet little cat sleeping peacefully in a small-town post office? Luckily it appears Sammy is now back inside - at least for part of the day.

Hopefully everyone in town has made clear their opinion of the little snitch who reported Sammy to the Postal Service. I don't think he or she is going to be terribly popular in Notasulga after this.....

I don't think a visit to a post office is long enough to bother anyone's allergies. People who feel that way wouldn't pet the cat or get near it, so I don't think that's a valid excuse.

I think Kristi's right. And the problem that the complainant used against the cat was, I think, just that the post office was a federal office and cats shouldn't be in there. I haven't heard anything about anyone complaining due to allergies.

I wish Notasulga wasn't over 2 hours away from me - I'd love to stop in and visit with Sammy.

I didn't know you could be allergic to cats and still be around them. I think thats great. I have to admit I don't know much about animal allerges. I learn something new every day. Thanks Electra, Kristi and lindsey

Whoever wrote the letter truly needs to get a life.

One of the charms of small town life is that you can usually avoid many of the rules and regulations life often demands of us!

And I think that having animals around a business is actually good for business. Not only does it "humanize" the business itself in the eyes of the consumer but most people benefit when they're around animals. There's not much better in life for reducing stress than petting a purring cat....

I completely agree Lindsey. All your comments were dead on. I hope they allow Sammy to continue to be doted on by the town patrons. Even if someone were willing to adopt him cats get very attached to a place and I bet he is very social and likes to visit with people. He considers it his home.

I do wonder who is feeding him and has he been neutured, treated for parasites and fleas, and vaccinated. If we wrote to the post office do you think someone would answer. Perhaps we could send some donations to get this done. What do you think?

There always has to be that one out there to start trouble. There is no reason whatsoever why Sammy shouldn't be able to stay at the post office! He's not causing harm to anyone and it seems everyone, except for that one person, likes him! Good grief. (I may be a little bit partial because I use to have a cat named 'Sammy' AND he looked exactly like THIS Sammy cat). :)
Thank you Kristi.

As if stray animals don't have enough going against them someone is always trying to make trouble rather than help. It just galls me!

Sue, if you want to find out about Sammy's care, etc. - you could either write to the address I gave in a comment above or call the post office at:

(334) 257-3939 (that's a phone number I found on the internet - I don't know if it's correct, of course.)

This is sad, I love cats. We have a terrible problem where I live with wild cats. When someone moves they leave their cat to take care of his/her self, they have kittens, the story goes on and on. When they show up at our place, I take care of them as best I can.
Hopefully someone will take Sammy home with them......
