A satellite survey between 1996 and 2006 found that the net loss of ice from Antarctica rose by about 75 per cent as the movement of glaciers towards the sea speeded up. Scientists estimate that that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet lost about 132 billion

Yes, Betina, you are so right, and I am so happy I am not that next generation having to clean up the huge mess we have made and paying for our idiocy. And then there are as you point out all the innocent creatures suffering that have no blame whatsoever, we are just seeing the beginning of major extinction waves and other environmental troubles. At least a few us are aware and awake and taking responsibility. Let us hope we can eventually build a critical mass.

What a catastrophe! The human ignorance is extreme.
Billions of people get their water supply from glaciers - billions of people and animals will be thirsty.
"Himalayan glaciers feed seven great rivers of Asia that run through China and India, the world's most populous nations, ensuring a year-round water supply to two billion people.
WWF said that nations most at risk also included Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, where melt water from Andean glaciers supplies millions during dry seasons. "
You can literally sit there and watch these glaciers retreat...soon there may be no snows on Kilimanjaro.

Hold on tight for the ride folks... if we want to do it we can... right now it is like we are on a see-saw and not making up our minds as with what we should do with this planet. Ahhhh...its about love...so many are wounded...continue wounding others... and therefore the Earth! HEALING, HEALING, HEALING...I pray always......

So, the ice loss is only at the peninsula and that is because there is a honking big volcano under the sea right near it.

Don't you get you are being lied to?

It isn't that they are being lied to, Judy, its that they are not being given the whole truth. Thanks for providing the rest of the story.

Judy Cross, this section is for leaving comments and not full fledged articles. I have been alerted to your disruptive behavior by other Care2 members that tell me that you have a habit of hijacking news stories that does not conform with your anti-global warming and climate change ideas and post other stories, often several long ones, in the comment section to confuse the readers on purpose. They tell me that you also quite frequently leave completely irrelevant and factual mistakes in your comments. Hence, I do not take your action seriously, but I have flagged it to let the C2 management know. I hope others can help me flag this comment as well, if for no other reason that this is a comment section, not a section to leave full fledged long articles.

And Judy is not being lied to as she always seems to believe when confronted with scientific proof of global warming and climate change. This is very recent high level research that explains that the ice is indeed melting rapidly, even in antarctica. And if Judy Cross is aware of a huge volcano underneath the ice I would certainly expect these highly reputed scientists to also know of the volcano. The fact is that there is a very real possibility now that the Antarctica is also melting at an alarming rate. Add that to what is already happening in the Arctic and high elevation glaciers (Andes, Himalaya) and we get a very serious picture.

Gaias is right Judy in the past has posted links to fabricated scientific papers which were proven to be false.
Also Judy know you geography:
The Greenland's glacier (in the arctic) is about 1,700,000 km2 and up to 3 km in thickness." when it melts - Maximum sea level rise potential: 6.5 m
Also other recent research on the antarctic:

I agree with the comments on global warming being an major issue and that it is occuring. Many have been frustrated by the long comments by other's. However valid the reason given for removing Judy C.'s comments doesn't afford anybody the right to castigate her in an open forum especially that she has been banned from particiipating in and are as much against Care2's code of ethics as where her posts. Stick to the facts, leave the playground antics for private groups. You might find you have more support.

On the advice of some Care2 members that have had some very bad experiences with the methods of Judy Cross in the past I decided to block her. It is my prerogative as I rather not suffer her disruptive and often outride rude behaviour. If she only could stick to facts herself and not throw in debunked theories, irrelevant facts and misinformation often in the form of long tedious articles, her contribution would actually have added value to the discussion. I seriously question her agenda.

Furthermore, I take issue with the way she uses other peoples' submitted articles to promote her own long tedious articles by posting them as comments. If she wants people to read these articles she should have them submitted herself and not abuse the comments section of popular read stories to promote her own articles and thus her own agenda that is just the opposite of the stories in these articles. This is not ethical and outride discourteous to people who take time to find good and valuabel stories to submit. Thus I can see why some people may take out their frustrations with regards to her behaviour by posting comments to that respect.

Said the spider to the fly. The oil companies have a vested interest in poisoning this issue with false propaganda disguised as truth. What do those who promote the stopping of global warming have to gain?
