I made this short documentary of Mima, her rescuers, and the start of the AR movement in Bulgaria. The world needs to know of the atrocities in this lawless country; and the few who do make a difference need our support. 3 petitions to sign/share below.

Yay! It worked! :)

Thanks to German-Bulgarian Animal Help (GBAH or db-tierhilfe) associates and founders, Mr. & Mrs. Dimitrov for their noble mission. Everyone should know the amazing work they do and the many lives they save (including Mima). Please share far and wide.

If you check out the first petition I listed above, GBAH has a crisis in one of their 4 shelters in Bulgaria (Shumen). The municipality has only paid them 10% of their share since 2009. Please consider donating-- any amount will help. There are 500 dogs and 100 cats in their shelter in Shumen that could use it. Thank you!!

HOW TO DONATE:
- via GBAH's website (in German): http://www.db-tierhilfe.de/
-OR-
- Send Money to their PayPal address in Germany: dimitrov@db-tierhilfe.de
-OR-
-Send Check Payable to:
Deutsch-Bulgarische Strassentier-Nothilfe

Check Memo (Account #):
Konto 340002903 BLZ 51850079 Savings Oberhessen

Address:
Frankfurter Strasse 35
D-35315 Homberg, Germany

GBAH is a registered non-profit charitable organization funded by donations. In terms of the global financial crisis and the escalating population of stray animals, the noble mission of the association is extremely difficult, but indispensable.

Did anyone watched the video? It shows both the good and bad people are capable of...

With the exception of some photos, there are no graphic footage. Just wondering if people actually watched or just signed and noted? The more we are aware, the more we are driven to help.

Thanks anyway!

Nadia - Yes, my dear, I DID watch the video - twice! I have a hard, choking lump in my throat and I WISH that I could envelop ALL of these poor, suffering, innocent souls in a protective wrapping of love and keep them safe from harm FOREVER. Tears are rolling down my cheeks now, as the stark horror of it all is beginning to sink in.

I believe one of the cats in this video footage is the subject of another petition, "Cat with snout burned away with tar", a poor soul found in a town in Bulgaria with her entire muzzle eaten away, which I signed not long ago. I also sent some money to the group who rescued her and are paying for her rehabilitation - Viktor Larkhill, of" Let's Adopt Global" - unless it is yet ANOTHER unfortunate Bulgarian cat who is the victim of the same sadist (or one using the same method)!

What can I say . . . dogs that have been scalped alive, cats with their snout burned away by hot tar . . . it just gets worse and worse and worse.

Thank you Patty, my dear, for sending me this!

I have already signed the petition for Mima to stay in Germany (a little while ago) but the other two petitions are new to me. They will also be signed, of course.

The saga of Mima is heartbreaking for many different reasons. WHY drag her back to Bulgaria when she is safe in a loving, caring home in Germany? It just doesn't make any sense!

Anna, Mima's return to Bulgaria only makes sense if you are a greedy opportunist like Violeta Dobreva who deceived us of our $8,000USD donation to Mima. Obviously, she wants to profit some more and wants more of her 15 minutes of fame. It's not just the lack of laws and mentality of people ingrained from generations that makes the cause in Bulgaria challenging-- it's fake activists like her and her followers who are campaigning under the guise of animal advocacy and national pride... for the purpose of self-advancement out of the backs of Mima and other suffering animals. It's appalling!

Nadia, I pray for Mima's safety; may God's Angels protect her from this day forward! I thought she'd found a fur-ever home but was shocked when I read your note to Anna! All 3 petitions are signed and I'm sorry, but, I can not think about this it's gonna weigh heavily on my mind and make me toss and turn. I too watched the video. It was absolutely heartbreaking and truly inspirational at the same time. The tears are still streaming down my face as I type this message. There truly is a special place in hell (regardless of what hell you do or don't believe in) for the monsters capable of such brutality and I wish we could help them find their way there. Bless all the amazing people involved who are willing to stand up for the animals and give them a voice. Thank you, Nadia for opening my eyes to the situation in Bulgaria. All 3 petitions have been signed and I will gladly sign any future petitions that arise on this issue.

THERE WAS A SIMILAR STORY TO MIMA'S IN THE FORMER YUGOSLAVIA. SHE IS A BEAGLE NAMED "MILA" AND ALL FOUR OF HER PAWS WERE CHOPPED OFF. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE SAME KINDS OF PROTESTS IN THE STREETS OF THE FORMER YUGOSLAVIA AS I DO IN BULGARIA. WE, AS A WORLD, NEED TO TAKE BACK OUR ANIMALS. IT TAKES GRASS ROOTS, IT TAKES MOBILIZING, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT TAKES PASSION. GOD BLESS MILA AND MIMA.

Michelle, I think you mean Mila from Serbia though I don't think beagle is her dominant breed. Mila was attacked just a couple of weeks after Mima was discovered. Mila's injuries were just her paws... they were chopped off quickly and precisely unlike Mima whose legs were sliced off little by little.. she was tortured for weeks and her legs were left n different sizes.

The mayor of Belgrade offered to pay for Mila's treatment and she has since been adopted (in Serbia). I personally think Mila did not get the best treatment and should have been sent to Germany or the UK. Her prostheses is very cheap she can't walk well with it. Her adopters trimmed it down themselves and added some padding. Mila is not undergoing physical therapy. I think she has to!! She deserves better. Both her and Mima deserve the best in life after what they went through. As for Mima, although our donation to Mima is held by a conniving fake activist in Bulgaria, GBAH paid for the rest of her bills even though they're already strapped. Mima is still doing rehab and she may or may not accept her wheelchair and prostheses but she got the best possible treatment for her rare condition and has the best possible life with Eva and all her handicap brothers and sisters in Germany. Now they're trying to take it all away from Mima! Bastards!!

While animal cruelty is a crime in Serbia, no one was held accountable for Mila's case. I guess it's too much to ask for them to enforce the law! On the other hand, Mima's case was made a mockery in Bulgaria. They can only get the perp for "terrorizing the people" since animal cruelty isn't a crime there. Although everyone knew who the psycho was, their court ruled to stop the investigation. According to them, they can't prove Mima was attacked by a human, that she may have stepped on a trap!! As if Mima enjoyed it the first time, she had to step on a trap 4 times!!!

I don't get these countries at all... the mentality is so backwards! It starts from the top...but, their politicians reflect those who put them in office. It's the majority that needs to be educated on compassion and see animals differently. Unfortunately, it's been instilled in them-- the ignorance that animals are decease-carrying pests or are there to take their anger out on having a miserable existence, etc... most of these people are hopeless. It's the younger generation that needs to be targeted. I know GBAH and other NGOs have programs in Bulgaria to educate kids. Let's hope they survive long enough to continue their good work.

I watched the entire video and my fingers are shaking as I type this. The people who do this have the compassion gene missing. They seem to enjoy what they do. Of couse, their country is under a dictatorship and most of these people have no concept of helping animals because it dosen't help the state. I think they are busy surviving. Not living because there is no time or energy or money for "frivilous" things like companion animals. I hope that change can come to Bulgaria so they can really enter into the 21st century. Of course in Mima's case, (revenge because of an argument between two famlies) ... words can't describe what i'd like to do to the person (or people) responsible for that horrible deed but hard labor in a rock quarry for 5 years and minus one of their limbs might ...only might...be a start to their punishment.

Noted and signed thanks Nadia. The video made me cry. I thank god for all the angels on this planet who share their love, kindness and empathy with these beautiful creatures. These countries who treat animals with utter disregard and extreme cruelty need to be exposed to the rest of the world. As hard as it is to watch (and most of the time I can't) we all need to see the truth. The courage it must take for fellow animal lovers to film these utter horror hell scenes is incomprehensible. It's thanks to them that usually the first step can follow in helping these animals.

The video is heartbreaking. It shows compassion and happy endings for some dogs and cats but the cruelty is so much I couldn't avoid crying. It's horrible, a puppy skinned alive in a shelter as a response to people wanting the law to protect animals? The things I wish I could do to all these people, they deserve to be treated the same way they did treat these innocent and beautiful animals. But whatever their actions eventually they'll come back to them.

Nadia - In some countries, animal advocates have managed to bring a successful prosecution of an animal abuser/torturer/murderer on the grounds that the animals are PROPERTY, and therefore, the abuser/torturer/murderer has harmed, or destroyed, another person's property. Of course, this argument sadly is not applicable in the case of "strays", i.e., homeless animals, as these poor souls are not the property of anyone.

I know this is rather less than satisfactory, as we do NOT want animals to be viewed as inanimate property, BUT: if you cannot bring a prosecution on the basis of making an animal, or animals, suffer pain, then it is the next best thing, to use the argument of "property". At least, this way, the case IS brought to court. No doubt, if convicted, the abuser gets off with a fine, but it raises awareness and brings the case(s) out into the open while we wait for proper animal welfare laws!

I see. So this Violeta woman has DEFRAUDED the charity of a very large sum of money! Well. Is it not possible to bring a criminal prosecution for theft/fraud? She is withholding monies donated for Mima, and Mima is no longer in her care.

"This country", "these countries"...? You think your countries are better? No they are not, see what is happening there and than start judging. Now let me tell you something about me. I am Bulgarian, a sworn animal defender, all of my pets have been saved from the street and I have literally risked my life for an animal. I am not exception, there are many people like me, and I have seen people doing the impossible for animals. In general people in Bularia love animals and nature, and hate animal abusers.

Now, a little correction of the information. Abuse is not tolerated and there is no hate towards animal lovers. It is quite the opposite. Such things are conducted by very few idiotic individuals, and mostly for the sake of publicity - which makes it worse, actually. And by the way - some of the pictures were not from Bulgaria.

Of course, facts are facts - we do not have serious legislation system to defend animal rights; animal cruelty occurs; we must definitely try harder. But don't exaggerate and throw every horrific act you can think of Bulgaria. This is simply wrong.

It shocks the heart, it stuns the soul and severs speech, and it leaves you weeping that you cannot do more, that you cannot stop it everywhere for all time ... petitions are signed with hope that people listen ...

Noted, signed all petitions & made a donation to this group. Cried bucketfuls & wailed in horror over the vid on Youtube, all while BEGGING the ethereal spirits to help us all STOP these things from continuing! 'Unbelievable' atrocities, every bit as horrific as those in the so-called 'food' animals industries, or in medical research, or countless other animal abuses everywhere. It's maddening, yet WE are "expected" to stay "reasonable" and "calm" in the face of it, whilst utter HEATHENS run amok, free to inflict what they will on hapless animals. I'd totally despair for the whole world, if not for all those who DO care and WILL keep supporting animal causes and JUSTICE for them.

This MOVEMENT, across the entire world, needs to keep growing, and at an unprecedented pace! Thanks to you all for helping keep that pace going higher and higher!

@ Kristina Golemanova: Exaggeration? I was so traumatized making this video, I didn't have room to fit all the cases I came across from Bulgaria just this year alone even if I made a full-length movie. And, having been an ARA most of my life, I have seen a lot! I didn't even get to include mayors like Rositsa Yanakieva from Pernik who ordered the poisoning of stray dogs. Or the notorious killing station in Plovdiv and its neighborhood scattered with dead cats in the morning as they shoot them at night by those who find this fun or by way of "community service" for cleaning up the streets. I didn't even mention that a fraction of the 250,000 Bulgarians who signed up to the group in Facebook who were supposed to have been outraged of what happened to Mima changed their minds thanks to so-called "journalists" like Karbovski and other media propaganda that has spun this cause against causes for human rights. I can also send you links to articles from Bulgaria with more comments that says the country should take care of its people first before the animals (as if there is no connection and as if it's a competition). I especially didn't have room in the video to show what a mockery your court system did in Mima's case!

I obtained the pics from GBAH and from Bulgarian groups or my own group from BG friends-- individuals directly posting their own experiences; some of which are animals they themselves took care of. If the pics are not from GBAH's files, I can give you links of the source of each pic-- cases we covered. You can do the same and produce your own source to back-up your claim that the pics are not from Bulgaria.

I have this video with captions translated to Bulgarian posted on FB for fellow advocates there. See for yourself what real Bulgarian activists say: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150105362165629

I have come across so-called animal lovers like you. Although I appreciate you taking in a few animals and giving them a home, as a militant animal activist, I can say we don't have the same priorities. National pride doesn't help the animals. I personally have protested on the streets of NYC and urged tourists to boycott my city for the treatment of our horses, animals in circuses, stores selling fur, shelters with high kill rates and other atrocities that go on here. I won't take offense if you wish to help expose my city or country to the atrocities here. Just the same to many Canadian activists who could use all the help in stopping the seal slaughter there. There are many crimes committed around the world. However, saying it isn't so bad in Bulgaria doesn't help the animals you're supposed to be advocating. Two wrongs don't make a right. Besides, you can't compare the mentality that is predominant in your country especially when it comes to companion animals. Downplaying the barbaric treatment of animals in your country only hurts the cause.

I've been working on the cause in the Balkans for many years where the treatment to animals go beyond extreme. I have concentrated my efforts n Bulgaria as Mima's case really touched my heart. Animal cruelty knows no borders and I work on campaigns where I find I'm most needed. I don't need anyone's permission to do this. I created a Facebook group with over 36,000 members supporting Mima and the cause in Bulgaria. If you can set aside your pride, you can join us if you'd like to help and know more of what is going on in your country: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=104654392906259

I'm also a member of few great Bulgarian animal advocacy groups with real activists who are dedicated to the cause, if that's what you prefer.

We should nurture compassionate thought. Since we wish to live, we should not kill any other living being. Furthermore, the karma of killing is understood as the root of all suffering and the fundamental cause of sickness and war, and the forces of killing are explicitly identified with the demonic. The highest and most universal ideal of Buddhism is to work unceasingly for permanent end to the suffering of all living beings, not just humans.

#8,4609:05 pmMarch 11Dee HillierUnited Kingdom.The doctrine of karma teaches that any wrong behaviour will have to be paid for in a future life - so cruel acts to animals should be avoided. From the beginnings of Buddhism, there were regulations intended to prevent the harming of sentient beings in the animals realm for various reasons. The Buddha taught that all sentient beings, including those in the animal realm, possess Buddha nature and therefore can attain enlightenment and that from infinite rebirths, all animals have been our past relatives, sisters, mothers, brothers, fathers and children. Therefore it is against the first precept to harm, kill or eat sentient beings as it is the same as harming, killing or eating the flesh of our own child or mother.

Nadia, I agree to your entire premise here:
"Just the same to many Canadian activists who could use all the help in stopping the seal slaughter there. There are many crimes committed around the world. However, saying it isn't so bad in Bulgaria doesn't help the animals you're supposed to be advocating. Two wrongs don't make a right. Downplaying the barbaric treatment of animals in your country only hurts the cause."

I'm Cdn. and that doesn't stop me from slamming my own country for all our OWN abused animals issues! Why would it? You either care for them as much as you claim, or you don't, and politics or "national pride" has no place alongside such atrocities.

Thank you for having a healthy "backbone" and sticking to your guns on behalf of those who suffer at the hands of mancruel. Just had to let you know.

God grant me a sword and no use for it…
Nadia, I have but my friend Apolonia P to thank for routing this to me..
Firstly, No words to describe what went through my mind when I watched this video which I must very gratefully say got the message across..
These people are angelic souls who dare to care for the voiceless, bless their hearts and may they never fall short of strength, so much like the beautiful angels I’ve come across on care2, doing more than they humanly can do..
However a few pointers here,
World over are
#Animals are treated the same way
#The images of the burns and the killing them being poisoned..
# Animal lovers being rebuked and animals bearing the brunt of it..
#Animals in the name of being sprayed and neutered are left to die and rot.. Some after the spraying and neutering done are left into newer areas,
This my friend is present because man has forgotten to be human.. He fears not God/ Life/ Nature nor his/ her wrath. He jumps with joy when he inflicts pain on a meeker life then proudly states it the jungle law where the survival of the fittest stays..
What he forgets is that he too is a small tiny part of life, he too has his time, he too will face the similar or worse situations than what he or his mind can ever comprehend, He too will have his share, for the price of abuse or robbing a life of its rights no one can ever get away with. For when the sun rises it rises for all lives.. Such is life.. Where man has to set his ego aside and start from scratch to learn the simple things from each of these amazing angelic lives, the so termed voiceless for those who don’t wish to hear, the so termed meek for those who don’t understand strength, the so termed fear for those who do not understand Love..
Animals are the only lives who love another more than themselves..
Can man understand that?? Hmm.. more scientists, more research, more lives to torture, to understand that.. Sad if only he used his heart.. Such is life!! And the truth is Animals already know!!
Signed ..Melody, You signed on January 22, 2011.

Bless your heart Nadia

HI NADIA. I WOULD HAVE RESPONDED PRIVATELY, BUT YOU MENTION ON YOUR PAGE YOU PREFER CONTACT THROUGH FACEBOOK, AND I'M NOT A FB MEMBER.

IN ANY EVENT, FIRSTLY, I DEEPLY ADMIRE YOUR DRIVE AND APPLAUD WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I UNDERSTAND THE EMOTIONAL TOLL THAT FOLLOWING, COMPILING, COLLECTING, REFERENCING, AND DISSEMINATING INFORMATION ON ANIMAL CRUELTY CASES TAKES ON A PERSON. I'VE BEEN THERE. BUT A PASSION FOR ANIMALS, ANIMAL WELFARE, AND THEIR JUSTICE STOKES THE FLAMES OF ACTION. THE WHEELS OF JUSTICE TURN FRUSTRATINGLY SLOWLY AT TIMES, BUT WHEN VICTORY SEES THE LIGHT OF DAY, EVEN IF IT'S A SINGLE RAY, IT IS ALWAYS SO VERY SWEET AND MAKES THE EFFORT ALL THE MORE WORTHWHILE.

SECONDLY, I HAPPENED ACROSS MILA'S STORY AFTER THE FACT, AND WAS UNAWARE OF THE DETAILS. BY THE WAY, WOULD A PETITION HELP HER ACHIEVE THE PHYSICAL THERAPY AND ATTENTION TO HER PROSTHETICS THAT SHE NEEDS? I WOULD SUPPORT AUTHORING ONE.
ANY WAY, I'M NEW TO THE COMMUNITY, SO AM STILL IN THE PROCESS OF LEARNING, EXPLORING, AND FINDING MY WAY. THERE'S AN INEXHAUSTIBLE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION HERE AT THE SITE, AND I AM STUMBLING THROUGH AS TIME ALLOWS, SOMETIMES QUICKLY, OTHER TIMES SLOWLY. I JOINED YOUR GROUP YESTERDAY, AND WOULD APPRECIATE CURRENT UPDATES ON ISSUES RELATED TO ANIMALS IN THE BALKANS. PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED.

FOURTHLY, I UNDERSTAND THE "BALKAN MENTALITY" WELL, AS I AM A CHILD OF A MAN WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED WITH AN OLD "COUNTRY MENTALITY." THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, I WAS PRIVY TO THE MINDSET AND AM ACQUAINTED WITH THE WORLD VIEW. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT I CONDONE IT OR AFFIRM IT IN ANY WAY, AND TO MY MIND, MY FATHER WAS NEVER A PARTY TO THE HORRIFIC METHODS OF CRUELTY VISITED ON MANY OF THE ANIMALS WE ARE SEEING SUFFER IN THE BALKANS TODAY. THROUGH GOD'S PROVIDENCE, I WAS GRACED WITH THE GIFT OF COMPASSION, ALSO MODELED AND NURTURED BY A MOTHERWHO DEEPLY LOVED ANIMALS, WHICH I BELIEVE IS KEY.

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WHEN YOU CLAIM IT IS THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS THAT NEED TO CARRY THE TORCH, AND IN MANY COUNTRIES ACROSS THE WORLD, I BELIEVE THEY ARE DOING JUST THAT. CRUELTY KNOWS NO BORDERS, BUT NEITHER DOES COMPASSION, AND IN OUR MARCH AGAINST ERADICATING ANIMAL CRUELTY, WE ARE INDEED, A VERY STRONG ARMY.

LASTLY, I SIGNED ALL THREE PETITIONS BUT WILL REFRAIN FROM WATCHING YOUR VIDEO FOR THE TIME BEING. I ACTUALLY HAVE A PETITION HERE AT CARE2.COM AS WELL, AND WOULD BE HONORED TO HAVE YOU SIGN IT IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY. IT DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR SUSHI, THE MALAYSIAN POODLE BEATEN TO DEATH ON VIDEO. FOR NOW, GOD BLESS YOU AND THE WORK YOU DO. STAY STRONG AND KEEP US POSTED ON THE WELFARE OF MILA AND MIMA.

HUGS AND WHISKERS, MICHELLE >^..^

Dear Nadia, I want to thank you for what you've done for animals and yes I did watch the video even I know it is hard to do. But I just want to see what you (and we) are fighting for. I will forward this to my friend as well. What I learn recently that even someone have a good heart, they may need to see it to understand what animal abuse is about, just eye opening kind of thing. It is really hard just to watch the video so I know it was much harder for you to create it and I really want to thank you for that. Stay strong and keep us posted! We are with you all the way!

PS: of course, I signed all the petitions a while ago but will forward to my friend.

Dear Kritina Golemanova, I am sorry that you feel offended with this. Yes, I agree that this kind of abuse happen in many places around the world (some even worse and yes, mine is not better either) and I want to thank you for what you've done to help abused animals. But I think most of people here do not mean to blame the whole country, it is just to word using that is misleading. There is no such a thing as "absolutely good or bad country". We are here for the same cause, to help animals. So is't it better if we do it together :)

It has long concerned me that the European Community did not include a basic level of animal welfare legislation as a qualification for entry into the European Community. So we have a long list of countries, that are struggling to come out of the Middle Ages, who are now members.
I still live in hope that the EU will introduce wide ranging legislation in respect to animals. Currently they have an "Action Plan" under discussion which is specifically looking at:

The Commission would like to achieve the following objectives:

* define more clearly EU action on animal welfare;
* continue to promote high standards in this field;
* provide greater coordination of resource;
* support research and promote alternatives to animal testing;
* ensure the coherence and coordination of all EU policies on animal welfare;

The action plan defines five main fields of interlinked action with the aim of achieving the stated objectives:

* upgrading minimum standards
* promoting research and substitute methods for animal testing;
* introducing welfare indicators ;
* ensuring that professionals and the general public are better informed;
* supporting international initiatives for animal protection.

Dear Nadia,

I do not understand why people lately are so eager to interpret my words as they wish. First of all, all I said was that cruelty happens everywhere so it should meet the same disgusts everywhere. And I am stating this, defending Bulgaria – not because I am Bulgarian, but because recently I read such rude offences towards my entire country and people, as if we are talking about China. In that matter, contrary to what you said, when it comes to animal cruelty national pride means nothing to me. Second, I really doubt that you have met an “animal lover like me”, simply because you don’t know anything about my actions. Now you make it personal. When I said I rescued animals from the streets I meant it literally – they were dying there and I took them at my home, my parents’ or my grandparents’. Yes, these are few. Additionally, I feed the street dogs of my entire neighborhood and in the winter (I live high in the mountains, so sometimes we have Siberian winters here) I build some funny improvised shelters for them. And third – the so famous journalist Karbovski is someone who is being hated by everyone. Mind that the information you receive online or from TV is not always true. And mind that what people say, even animal activists, is also not always true.

Do not think that you know the situation in Bulgaria better than I do. And do not twist my words. And never again underestimate my impact for animal welfare – which occasionally includes confrontations with hunters, and btw – this is pretty dangerous. To say it in one sentence – what I was unhappy about was reading cruel comments (not in this particular article, also the one about “trichane”) that generalize our entire population and put it in one group. This is simply not fair for people like me.

Kristina Golemanova, there is no need to be so defensive. "You think your countries are better"? It doesn't matter if anyone thinks their country is better. Do you really think that is our purpose here.....to argue about whose country is better? Advocating for the welfare of all non-human species is a very important part of the mission of this site. If you have a situation in which certain of your fellow citizens are hunting down dogs and cats and killing them because they are homeless or thought to be pests then, it seems to me you need all of the help you can get. I hope the scumbag who chopped off that poor dog's legs get's caught somewhere at the wrong place and wrong time by the right people who will perform the necessary surgery to make sure he is unable to reproduce and bring more generations of violence and hatred. It doesn't matter to me if he is Bulgarian. I wouldn't feel any different if he were from my own country. We do have some people like that in America, and believe me those of us at Care2 do all in our power to bring them to justice. There's not a country in the world that doesn't have this problem. But what would you prefer....that we turn a blind eye to what is happening in yours? If you really care about animal cruelty as much as I hope you do you have to know that we need each other. If we are ever to achieve a better world for non-human species we have to be in this fight together.

There is one word for video like this Nadia and it's PROPAGANDA! I have said it before and I will said once again - it's a shame that we , animal advocates in Bulgaria, who are working for this change to happen, although we don't have your money or power , attracted such alleys like you who obviously see a great business oportunity in all this. A true noble person is one who tries to sparkle good where there is bad and treats everyone with compassion. You're acting like helping the animals but you're lying, you show just the side of the strory that serves you and you're using other for your advahtage! I don't think anyone need "helpers" like you. And you call this is a documentary? Seriously! I pray for the day when people like you will start to mind their own business and leave us alone. There are enough cases of animal abuse in NY, aren't they? Do us a favor and go away? You did nothing but harm in a moment when people began to focus on creating the change and need to stay togather. We are doing fine! On the contrary of people like you who try to keep things merky because they live on other's misfortune! Hope justice will be served one day and I'm not talking just about Mima! ....

Ok, I think animal abuse accumulates anger and hatred in all of us, and when an argument occurs, this inner tension begins to show. It is some kind of negative circle that is forming here, so I will try to stop.

For some unknown to me reasons, my words keep being twisted and now Charliegone Lammers thinks in Bulgaria people hunt dogs and cats. Seriously, I don't think anyone is trying to understand what I write. I thought expressing my opinion was the right thing, but now I see that the right thing is just to stop writing.

I want to wish all the best to everyone and tons of luck in the fight agains animal abuse and for animal welfare! :)

@ Kristina Golemanova, you may have been reacting to comments from other threads about the dog spinning in that primitive village in Bulgaria while I'm reacting to the ugly nationalistic pride lead by Violeta Dobreva and her ignorant supporters on FB. My film showed the good and bad of people in Bulgaria, you can interpret it anyway you'd like. We don't know anything about each other and not much can be done on that end in this thread so let's hope the best for the animals indeed.

"From Bilyana Petrova - an animal advocate from Bulgaria, filmmaker, astrologer, writer and creator of the petition about Mima"

Bilyana, is that supposed to impress us? You missed some parts of your title: "Supporter of the Conniving Opportunist Violeta Dobreva" and "the lame creator of the poorly written petition for MIMA" which I and the Care2 community had to endorse first to move it forward. Do you really think you would have gotten that many signatures without us? Remember I submitted your poorly written petition here? http://www.care2.com/news/member/661371542/1439830

I know you hate for me to say it, but it only had 75 signatures when I first signed it and when everyone on FB thought it was a hoax (ie Mima's pic was photoshopped), lots of time and energy was spent defending your petition because we saw a separate news article to know it was a fact. It was your stubbornness and pride that got in the way of your activism because when I simply asked you to add a link to the news on your petition description to prove it wasn't a hoax and to fix your petition letter filled with "%u041D%u0438%u0435" characters to make your petition successful, you refused and called me an ego maniac when it was YOUR ego that was hurt. You guys seem to project a lot. I was taken aback with that as we here are used to working together and helping campaigns to succeed for the sake of the cause. But I knew then and suspected your priority is not the animals. Your ego and pride is still getting in the way of your so-called animal advocacy...that somehow you see our speaking for the animals in Bulgaria as an attack on your country.

And what may be my "business opportunity" in this??? How dare you! I was the one who raised over $8,000USD for Mima and sent it to Violeta based on her DECEPTION!! The money was in my bank, I could have ran! Violeta suddenly can't communicate and translate my emails to her AFTER she received the money. She did fine before that we communicated almost daily. When the money reached her, she stalled and deceived us and stopped paying for Mima's care since August of 2010 and GBAH has been paying for her bills since even with their own financial crisis. And, Violeta still refuses to comply with the will of the donors. And you chose to support her nonetheless.. is it because she's a celebrity in your eyes? Or that she's Bulgarian? Or both? Or perhaps like her few supporters, perhaps you're getting a percentage of the loot out of Mima? It's not just our $8K but she's still using Mima and collecting donations from good people in Bulgaria to date! You don't need a mensa card to figure out her intentions of wanting Mima returned to her after just having Mima for only 2 weeks and taking Mima away from the family in Germany she knows and loves!!

Guess what, Bilyana, I'm NOT going away and I do not need opportunists and fake activists' support. In fact, having enemies comes with the territory of activism... vivisectionists, hunters, the meat and fur industries, animal exploiters like Dobreva and her supporters like YOU. I've been a fighter and a member of this community for many years. We have handled cases here in NY, the US and atrocities all over the world. And, unlike Bulgaria, there are many more genuine animal activists in NY and real orgs like GBAH unlike Dobreva's deceptive org, "Care & Shelter for Everyone" when she obviously doesn't 'care' as she and her supporters like you slander reputable orgs like GBAH and RSDR nor does she have a 'shelter.' I do my part in my city and I don't need your permission to help the animals in your country. Animals have no nationality to us. Your ignorant mentality won't work here so don't embarrass yourself further.

Another thing, Bilyana, as far as your claim for the "propaganda" I made, here's what your fellow Violeta Dobreva supporter said about my video (wish you guys get your stories straight):

"Jenny Popova Yes ok, it's the truth, but to lie in respect of copyright, I disagree. In the United States to pursue a hole on copyright. Photos from the shelter in Ruse are my property and Donato has no rights over them. Nor any to use them for any purpose, and argues that owns the rights to publish them."

It's funny that after seeing real cases of extreme cruelty in Bulgaria and acknowledging it with anger towards those responsible for the atrocities like real activists I know, the reaction of folks like you seem to be anger on the messenger. Btw, the pics she's talking about were those she took when she was still employed by GBAH therefore, they own it and she can't possibly claim "copyright." lol Nor do I need it anyway... Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use.

It's the abundant ignorance and slanderous attempts to destroy the work of orgs like GBAH by your little group that's hurting the cause. Those like you are an embarrassment to the cause in Bulgaria. Trust me, the real Bulgarian advocates I know are the ones who wish for you and your little group to go away. :)

@Michelle, thanks for your support. I am very well aware that not everyone from the Balkans are bruts. Yes, the younger generation do have to carry the torch. A Bulgarian described it well for me:

"Nadia, it is not the majority, trust me. I know really great people there. The ones that get defensive, scream and smear and have that imbecile sense of entitlement are predominantly children of the ex-communists (commies), the so called "nomeklatura" in Bulgaria, who have NO respect for others at all. They will step on your toes and will yell at you that your foot happened to be under their boot! I lived there long enough to have "cherished" memories of this abnormality. They don't know the meaning of the word CHARITY. They have no idea how charitable organizations work! "

I already signed your petition for Sushi and the one created by Singapore SPCA. Thanks for doing that. As for Mila's petition, I already created one and closed it when she was adopted and their police closed the case. I sent the signatures to the targets with a demand for an animal police in Serbia. As for petitioning for Mila to get proper care, I think this would be a stretch as the target unfortunately would be just her adopters. We are treading lightly on that as you know, she's deemed as property when it comes to the law and "owners" have the right to decide for her care. Friends from Mila's group on FB are still trying to convince them.

Its time we as humans train our eyes, our minds our hearts to look more than what meets the eyes, to hear more than what we can hear, the video here may be showcasing GBAH, What message the video sent me was yes there is alot of abuse towards animals, but yes there are people making a difference and yes if they can why not we?? its never about power or money when it comes to an animal its about hearing what they are trying to say feeling what they are trying to feel..undoing the dirt and list of abuses man has created for them..
the key is lets do it together.. divided we would fall, Stick to the cause 'no abuses' give every life its right and respect them.Get people aware and move towards our goal for animals, for life..
No offence to anyone just dont shift the focus from animals, animals activist worldwide would appreciate this step they would in their hearts applaud Nadia for taking out the time to show both the side of the coin, still she did what she could as a human, send the message across that this is life, this is happening, lets not be like the abusers and pass this off, lets work together to get every animal their right to dignity, and love.. if we remember animals in the begining never needed our help its us who learned from them today we abuse them, shift of this power should go back to the animals who have helped man and loved for nothing in return..
Spread this message, change is happening for the good lets gaurd that.. focus on the things we need to focus on.. let it start right from here now..
Nadia you rock girl and your video has taught me not about GBAH but about the power of Life where together we can save as many lives we can ..Bless your heart for this..

Kristina, there is a time and place for everything - this is not the place to air views/opinions, whether of each other or any country; here we fight for animals' rights and their survival; anything else should be done somewhere else please. Here we stand together in our fight for the planet's animal kingdom - and EVERY country on this planet has its human filth! We should not take exception to anyone being 'named and shamed', it is applicable to every country on this planet, whether they have laws or not! We each in our own way try to help our animals and we might not agree on the route to get to the ultimate goal - as long as we all 'aim' in the right direction! Together, we can do so much more!!! I note, I sign, I share but I would also rather 'drop dead' before I watch any video - I want to sleep at night, thanks! Nadia - thanks for posting! Pity that the comments tend to distract one from the real issue, which is a major concern no matter where the situation.
