Sample letter:

I am writing to respectfully request that your office vigorously prosecute and seek the maximum prison sentence and fines against Robert Primmer, the man who set a poor, helpless cat on fire in a burn barrel this past September (Case #AGCR 012412).

It has been well documented that animal cruelty cases are a precursor to even greater crimes and usually co-occur to child abuse and other forms of family violence. Most serial killers started as animal abusers. If unpunished, Primmer is certain to terrorize the community!

Please do everything in your power to see to it that Robert Primmer serves the maximum fines and prison sentence as allowable by Iowa state laws, as well as receive all necessary psychiatric intervention. In addition, please include a prohibition in his sentence against having custody to any more animals in the future.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Only 73 people sent letters so far. Come on guys... please be a voice for this poor cat! This is a more challenging case to prosecute and we don't want the DA to give up. Although a witness was able to take pictures, no one was able to find the cat. It's all a matter of public pressure now-- the DA's office needs it!

Please crosspost, and forward to everyone you know. Many thanks!

Hello Jerilyn

A person who could do something so cruell has a disregard for life itself. Not just the llife of animals but of life in general. History shows that people who do thinbgs like this are capable of and likely to committ other acts of violence. Perhaps against a child or another human. There must be a price to pay for this person or there will be a price for society to pay later on..
Jerilyn, I commend you on your dedication to bringing about the awareness that will hopefully end this kind of hatred in the future.

Sincerely, Billdaddy

To The Honorable Patrick Chambers,

Dear Sir,
My name is Karenlee and I am a member of Care2 which is a site that fights for animal rights and the such. As you may know, animal cruelty is growing fast in all countries now and it must be addressed promptly. The fact that people torture animals and get some SICK pleasure out of it just breaks my heart in 2. Please help these animals and proscecute ALL people who do this act of mercellous torture. I am one voice for the voiceless. Won't you be a voice for the voiceless too?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Karenlee

Noted and sent. I hate to be the bearer of (possibly) bad news, but with the witness statements being circumstantial (they never saw Primmer actually light the cat on fire), and with the possibility that Primmer claiming that he was, say, lighting fireworks and didn't see the cat sleeping in the burn barrel, this case might be downgraded to something like a misdemeanor endangerment charge. We can only hope that the prosecutor (how come no one is faxing letters there?) has more to go on, like additional witnesses, a past history of animal abuse, or forensic evidence that Primmer actually placed Fluffy in the fire barrel.

Dennis, even if that is the case (see Dennis' post) all the letters will make the 'powers that be' aware that people will no longer sit silently by, when such atrocities are committed....if we all keep it up for each case that we become aware of, we can become a force of change.

Let us hope someone did see him place the cat in the burn barrel and come forth. Thanks for the info!

Billy

Kristen Sharer

When Billy was 6
One fine Easter day,
He received a gift
With which he could play.

It was a sweet little bunny
With hair to the floor.
What could have happened
When it was found dead by the door?

Accidental, they said.
Billy's just a child.
He just played too rough.
He got a little bit wild.

When Billy was 10
At a neighbor's house,
He poured some bleach
On a friendly pet mouse.

Boys will be boys
Is what they said.
Be careful, they added
As they patted his head.

When Billy turned 12
They found some deep cuts
On the face and the neck
Of the sweet family mutt.

No harm was done.
The dog's not hurt bad.
He didn't mean to do it.
He truly feels sad.

When Billy was 16,
He took a gun to school.
He fired upon them
While calling them fools.

When Billy was finished
Having his fun,
He smiled at his carnage
And lay down his gun.

The town went on weeping
All through the trial.
He showed no remorse.
He showed not a smile.

What happened, they asked,
To a boy so fine?
How could it be
He showed not a sign.

What about me?
Said the ghost of the long dead mouse?
And I the rabbit
Who was found dead in his house?

And the elderly dog
With scars that still showed
Softly whined and wondered,
HOW DIDN'T THEY KNOW?

To The Honorable Patrick Chambers,

I am writing to you about a Robert Primmer who allegedly set fire to a cat using a burn barrel in September (Case #AGCR 012412). In this day and age we like to think people are more civilised than this, but often this is not always the case. This was unprovoked attack on a defenceless animal, what if the animal was owned by a small child who ran out to save it? This disgusting act could have been inflicted on a child. The cat cannot be found, it is either dead from injury, traffic accident from being disoriented or back at home recovering. Again, what if the owner found it in such a state? Such unneccessary stress and hardship on a family because of this mans actions. This was unprovoked cruelty and stupidity and should not go unpunished.

Please prosecute this man to the full extent of the law.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

That picture is adorable!!!Sweet kitty... Story noted and letter (below) sent. I had to be polite...I can't express my anger politely...
My name is Elena Gageanu and I am from Romania. I am writing to you
regarding the case of Robert Primmer and his horrible deed. It is more
than obvious that he set the cat on fire on purpose and possibly he did
enjoy it. This only proves how dangerous this man is or could become for
the community he lives in. Therefore, I respectfully request that you
do everything in your power to make sure this man does not get away with
this, that he will be prosecuted and punished to the maximum extent of
the law.
This kind of atrocities happen every day, every second, everywhere, but
there is not always someone there to take a stand and make things
right. This time, there is someone and that is YOU, the one who has the
power to make things right.
Please, help stop those who abuse, torture and kill innocent,
defenseless animals. Give Robert Primmer a harsh sentence for what he did and
perhaps others will not follow his bad example.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

noted and letter sent. In essence I said that in view of the recent case against Michael Vick and the allegations that only high profile celebrities are being prosecuted for crimes such as animal cruelty, it is imperative that anyone who abuses animals be prosecuted not only for the animal's sake but for the public at large. Most animal abusers usually graduate to violent crimes against their fellow humans so stopping Mr Primmer now is most urgent. I hope that the DA will seek the maximum penalty in this case. And I hope that someone finds that poor cat and gets it to the vet as soon as possible.

Nov 11, 2007

To The Honorable Patrick Chambers,

My name is Linda F.,and I am writing to you from H,
Indiana. I am both a pet owner and animal lover, as well as a member of
CARE2.com since 2001, a website dedicated to fighting for both animals
and the enviroment .

I was reading the latest issue of the CARE2newletter today, when I
first read about the animal abuse case of Robert Alan Primmer-case #
AGCR 01242. I have also subsequently followed the latest updates on this
tragic case on pet-abuse.com.

The horrific facts of this case are that Robert Primmer deliberately
tried to burn alive a defenceless kitten in a burn barrel. Although
the kitten escaped, it was gravely injured, and unfortunately disappeared
before local law enforcement arrived and has never since been found.

I respectfully request that Your Honor vigorously prosecute Robert
Primmer to the maximum jail sentence allowed by law. Furthermore, that
he be required to undergo mandatory psychological counseling, as well
as be forever banned from ownership/control of pets and animals as also
allowed by law.

It has been noted that animal abusers will often go on to abuse
children, so that Robert Primmer is clearly a ominious threat and constant
danger to both animals and children in your community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Below is a copy of the letter I sent, here's hoping justice is served!

To The Honorable Patrick Chambers,

I am writing with concern re:Robert Primmer allegedly set fire to a cat
using a burn barrel in September (Case #AGCR 012412).

I'd like to point out the psychological ramifications of not just the
witness's mindset, especially if this included children, but also the troubled
mind of Robert Primmer. Obviously for him to commit such an inhumane and
sadistic act, he has suffered some form of abuse himself, be it direct or even
something he has seen which has now created a domino effect. If he does not get
the psychiatric help he needs and the sentencing this sort of act deserves, how
is he to learn what he has done is not only wrong because the law states this,
but also it is wrong because of the effects it has on the victim(be it animal or
human), the witnesses and the families of the victim.

Im sure you will do everything in your power to see Robert Primmer is not
left to be a concern for the community, commiting further and more violent acts
of cruelty.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I put in a new beginning & picked up the 2nd half of Nadia's letter.

Here's what I wrote:

Robert Primmer set a poor, helpless cat on fire in a burn barrel this past September (Case #AGCR 012412).

Witnesses saw the cat in horrible pain and watched it's mad dash for escape.

There's really nothing more we need to know. There is no reasonable doubt. The only things remaining is to see that this torturer be ketp away from the human population.

Pleas put this man away before he tries to kill again. Set a precedent to protect your family and the rest of us.

Everyone knows that animal cruelty cases are a precursor to even greater crimes and usually co-occur to child abuse and other forms of family violence.

I was number 234. Here is my letter:

My name is Rebecca Schneider and I'm a concerned citizen regarding Case #AGCR 012412, the cat allegedly burned by Mr. Robert Primmer. While I understand that this case may be a bit difficult to prosecute since the victim, the cat, cannot be located, I am hoping you will vigorously pursue criminal charges against Mr. Primmer. The photo taken by the witnessing neighbors as well as the witness statements should be ample to gain a conviction.

It is imperative that law enforcement treat all cases of animal abuse, especially one this egregious, as serious crimes. It is well proven that those who can and do abuse animals have no compunction about abusing people as well. Our society does not condone these types of actions and abuses and all life needs protection from people such as Mr. Primmer.

I am respectfully requesting the most vigorous prosecution as well as asking that you seek the strongest possible punishment upon conviction; including jail time, heavy fines and a prohibition against ever owning, caretaking or having other interaction with animals ever again. Furthermore, psychiatric evaluation would also be warranted in this case.

The innocents of the world, children and animals, rely on us to protect them. Without us, they are voiceless. Please, sir, be this poor cat's voice as well as the outraged voice of people throughout the world: put this man in jail for this heinous crime. I'm counting on you as is the soul of that innocent cat.

Sincerely
Luz Agudelo

I heard about this right after it happened from a good friend on care2 and immediately sent a letter and forwarded the info to all. I was so shocked by this act of cruelty!!!!!!!!! Dennis... The friend who told me said that horrified neighbours had seen the cat jumping out of the barrel, scorched, terrified. and foaming at the mouth. Apparently, the cat disappeared between the bushes and was not found at that time yet. I don't know which one of our sources got it wrong... I trust my source, but he could also have been misinformed. Do you trust your source? This incident is so horrific that we have been calling on the DA to vigorously prosecute Primmer for his alleged crime. I need to know if he really did throw the cat in or if it was an accident.
