New Delhi: For a nation that has come to take trains running at 100 kmph as superfast, there is good news on the way. Indian Railways is working on a plan to run passenger trains at a speed of 200 kmph between Mumbai and Delhi by 2017.

And these won’t be bullet trains, which will take more time to become reality, the new superfast trains will use the existing tracks once the freight trains shift to the dedicated freight corridor being laid between Dadri in Uttar Pradesh near Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Mumbai, a newspaper reported.

It has been two years since the separation of Canadian trains from Amtrak (although some contractual arrangements to coordinate on those routes with border crossings have continued) Michael. In the US Congress has more to do with why not here (the GOP in Congress and some governors have been fighting the high speed rail initiatives Obama created).

thanks for the article and loved Ben's video.....loved taking the train here in the USA and wish we had the high-speed ones, but the oil/car industry here seems to have bought off too many politicians....

You are welcome Dave. I, too, love the train. High speed is underway in select places via a competitive grant program Obama began. Illinois has begun moving to higher speed--article posted same day as this one. You cannot currently send a star to Dave because you have done so within the last week.
