The prospect of Texas seceding from the U.S. has been getting a surprising amount of press lately. So, how good are the Lone Star State's actual chances of recreating the Texas Republic of old?

I'm sending this to Governor Rick (Hairy) Perry. I don't think he has read the Texas constitution , much less read the US Constitution. No, any twit should know that Texas can not leave the Union, no matter that some really stupid people have signed a petition to do so. Yes, we can separate into 5 states that is true and back before the snow bird invasion that also brought a lot of money into the state, we could break the state into 5 completely different areas. These are based on geology and geography of those areas, which has also lead to some different drawls for each area. East, west, north, south and central Texas are 5 distinct areas. It is a little embarrassing that Texas is also one of the stupidest of all states, bringing up the rear are states like Arizona, Alaska and all of those states once known as the confederacy.

Good idea Kit--sometimes people in power forget about pesky details like constitutional laws that forbid what they'd prefer...You cannot currently send a star to Kit because you have done so within the last week.

Separation from the union is not a very bright idea at this point. I do think that the individual states should have more control over their revenues and resources; responsibilities regarding infrastructure and economic development.
Taking back but not shutting down the Fed and placing it under control of the Treasury would be a great start to recouping lost revenue. Every time a dollar is issued it costs the US 17 cents which goes into the pockets of those who control the Fed; many of whom are overseas and not American citizens.

They've obviously lost what little sense they had left in their pointy little heads. What an ill conceived idea. Thanks.

I guess there are people in all 50 states who want to secede. If we could only send them all to Texas and let the others come to the other 49, preferably on a solid job exchange basis (Kit, I'd be happy to have you stay with me but in my area can't promise a decent job - yet). No law against dreaming, is there?

It's too late to do any good as the Bushs have already spread to other states. On the other hand Texas would get to keep the Perry's and maybe we could negotiate over Austin.

This doesn't even take into account all the corporations that are based there. They surely don't want to be entangled in the messiness of secession.
