I'm not a huge Geraldo fan, but when he does something awesome like this, I feel obligated to share it. Watch as he uses some real journalistic ability to dismantle the flimsy arguments against gun control, assault weapon semantics, and bogus statistics.

0:31 Geraldo calls out the automatic vs. semiautomatic nitpicking.
1:14 We see a classic slippery-slope argument about semiautomatic rifles.
2:18 Geraldo sidesteps the traditional "movies and video games" switcheroo.
3:30 Fox anchors show two clips of Obama and Biden promising not to take anyone's guns, and Geraldo isn't having any of it.
4:52 Geraldo calls for a scientific study and (5:40) crushes a flimsy anecdotal argument against gun control.
6:23 Geraldo asks a question that none of the anchors can answer and Fox ends the discussion.

Something about Fox, this seems like a set up to use Geraldo Rivera as the consenting voice while the others offer "reasonable" counter arguments.

None of this is reasonable, the "government" is not coming for your guns, as a nation we are looking for reasonable solutions. I fully expect more stupid and unreasonable arguments. We have more guns than human beings in this country, no one knows how many own weapons like the AR 15 and for what possible purpose? Hunters - the few that are really hunting for food, do not and would not use a military weapon for hunting, anyone that has used one knows that. This entire discussion is being slanted and distorted by the lobby groups for Gun Manufacturers, this about them, not people or their private rights.
Guns can and will be used for many years after they are manufactured, unlike a cell phone or TV, they do not break, they last for many years. Buy one if you must, keep it safely locked up, and stop getting suckered into a debate about gun sales for them. It's not our battle we (the people) gain nothing from gun sales.

Go, Geraldo! He handled the discussion beautifully, strongly yet reservedly in social format, always getting his point through respectfully. Good job!

Using one statistic of more 'guns' compared to another statistic of less violent crimes in the same time frame doesn't mean causality that more guns CAUSED less crime. Correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation People like to think simplistically I guess. That statistic doesn't even say WHAT guns. Rifles, shotguns, or handguns? You would need that information and then more statistics of how many violent crimes are committed with long guns vs. handguns etc What OTHER factors or variables had a part in those statistics etc.
Listening to pro gun people you get the idea that everyone was born with a gun in their hand, and everyone needs a gun to protect themselves from everyone else (and everyone else is thinking the same about you btw), and all this is a perfectly natural higher form of existence. Bleah.

I'm not a Geraldo fan either but in this case, he gets rave reviews. The gun advocates get so defensive, they just don't listen, they don't hear. They can keep their handguns, their rifles, their shotguns - but I would love to see liability insurance required on all guns. We have it on cars, why not guns?

Fox News is rather pathetic, but this is a good one. Way to go, Geraldo

How many shootings were actually done with combat assault type weapons? At Newtown it was left in the car.
If a person wants to get a weapon and commit murder that person will get a weapon whether it is a knife, a pistol or an IED. I don't think the mental health aspect is being addressed at all and I think we need to evaluate more fully the SSRI type drugs involved in the lives of these people who doe such dastardly things.

Good article.

Like Angelika, I couldn't make it through, except I would have described the sound as what you would hear from a group of two-year-olds if their voices were baritones. Sorry!

I was never a fan of Rivera- a Jew who changed his name to sound more t=ethnic...But, he was making points that these commentators would not even talk about.
The Biden and Obama footage was a kick in the stomach. One AGAIN, say what is politically correct to your audience - Politics 101; well. it's out there to haunt both of you.

Something definitely odd about this discussion on Fox. I just heard that Rivera is considering running for the U.S. Senate. That could explain a setup to try to show him as being moderate instead of the right wing nut he truly is.
