The oil giant contributed $2.5 million to a super PAC affiliated with GOP House Speaker John Boehner, which was devoted solely to running negative ads against Democratic candidates for Congress.

We have almost no idea which brand-name companies dumped tens or hundreds of millions of dollars into the last election.

Thatís because they are able to funnel their donations through trade associations and dark money groups.

But we do know about one: Chevron.

The oil giant contributed $2.5 million to a super PAC affiliated with GOP House Speaker John Boehner, which was devoted solely to running negative ads against Democratic candidates for Congress.

This sort of corporate meddling in elections is toxic to our democracy. Chevron must be held accountable.

Demand that Chevron keep its corporate profits out of the peopleís politics.

Chevronís spending was a business investment, made because GOP hard-liner positions ó like denying climate change and subsidizing Big Oil ó create the conditions for Chevronís record profits (even as they threaten the conditions for life on Earth).

Chevronís spending also appears to be illegal.

Earlier this week ó with allies at Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and Oil Change International ó Public Citizen filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission.* It appears that Chevron may have violated laws designed to prevent corruption in the federal contracting process, which prohibit contractors from directly or indirectly supporting candidates for elected office.

Brand-name corporations have been reluctant to contribute to super PACs because they fear public backlash. If Chevron gets away with making such donations ó and worse, mocking federal laws designed to prevent contracting corruption in the process ó then other companies will follow.

Donít let Chevron get away with it.

Tell Chevron to keep its corrupting cash out of our democracy.

Thank you for taking action.

Thank You

Ready to take the next step? Make sure Public Citizen has the resources to keep defending the people and our democracy from corporate power and political corruption.

yeah, I signed but my desire to keep tilting at the wind mills is growing weary. We have alternatives to playing this power game with OIL and GAS companies, and always losing. We have choices that even 10 years ago were not available.
I guess I need another injection of Don Quixote - a bit of polished inspiration that finally people will stand up for themselves this planet, their children, grandchildren.

Oh Dulcinea, where are you when some light is needed!

Chevron you are doing everything possible to destroy our planet. America's 1% have their fangs buried deep in the neck of America sucking this planet dry. Then if that isn't bad enough that Chevron drains the planet of natural resources Chevron does so with impunity by paying no taxes. America either wakes up or we do our best to get on the next ship heading for another planet. We stand up or we stand no more.

Signed.

It is past time that the money in politics be significantly reduced and that Citizens United be overturned. Corporations are not people, and money is not speech!

And the PAC laws changed so other voices can be heard! The key is money!! The important legislation is campaign finance reform. I am seeing why the Founding fathers were so wise. The system of checks and balances protect Us! Yes they can be frustrations but in the end all of our states need the same protections.
