Good. but watch the other giants smiling and standing in line to do Shell's job now that it became "vacant"- we are going to hear more bad news before long. Thx JL

Hopefully they'd have to submit better plans than Shell did (with what technology?). You are welcome Angelika. You cannot currently send a star to Angelika because you have done so within the last day.

Cannot believe oil companies are allowed to drill in the arctic. No common sense. Wish they were all banned forever

Noted. Well, I'm just plain disgusted. Although the comprehensive overhaul of its plans...must have an "integrated management plan" in place; and it is recommended that any future Arctic plans be subjected to a 3rd party audit--Greenpeace says it's a slap on the wrist, and Shell got off too lightly.
And, even though Salazar had doubts whether drilling could ever be done safely in a region as harsh & remote as the Arctic Sea......the final sentence says it all: "the Obama Admin. remained committed to drilling for oil in the Arctic."
Sounds like they're playing both ends against the middle here, and I think we should all pay close attention.

We simply need to stop drilling for oil altogether and find *other* sources of energy! Haven't we had enough spills and disasters? Explosions and such? Deaths and pollution? Shell is no better or worse than the other oil companies--all out to make a profit, never mind the ecological ramifications! Sickening.

About time. Not only are they totally ill prepared to drill, they can not clean up a spill when it happens. The Oil Cartels have not made a single improvement to their existing clean up/containment technology in 60, SIXTY, years and in that time they have developed no significant new technology. The spill last year of a relatively small amount in and around the Yellowstone river in Montana occurred on level ground during the Summer and with all of their "technology" under ideal conditions on land they managed to recover LESS THAN 1% of the spill. It is time to treat Oil Drilling like the addiction it has become and JUST SAY NO!
