Yes, the Iraq War was a war for oil, and it was a war with winners: Big Oil.

Quote from copywritten article at the site:
"And while most of the U.S.-led coalition forces have long since gone, Western oil companies are only getting started.

"Before the 2003 invasion, Iraq's domestic oil industry was fully nationalized and closed to Western oil companies. A decade of war later, it is largely privatized and utterly dominated by foreign firms.

"From ExxonMobil and Chevron to BP and Shell, the West's largest oil companies have set up shop in Iraq. So have a slew of American oil service companies, including Halliburton, the Texas-based firm Dick Cheney ran before becoming George W. Bush's running mate in 2000."

I will add that it's fair to say that each and every war, be they current or likely to come, is fought over oil, natural gas and any other resource for energy. Scientists have been suggesting that oil resources are RUNNING OUT on a global scale, even gas will not last for long enough to cover all needs (even if they frakk the entire USA! or drill the shores of most major oceans and seas), that means that renewables will HAVE TO BE PUSHED FORWARD MUCH FASTER than it is currently the case!

You are welcome Angelika and Shirley--and right, of course--we just need to be sure people remember.
Wish I had green stars for the two of you, but I'm told it is still too soon.

OIL???? Gosh and I thought for sure it was something about WMD, no not that must have been to spread democracy all over the world. Now how could anyone mind losing a few hundred thousand people for the sake of another tyrant? I mean, of course to have democratic rule. (heavy sarcasm)

STOP using fossil fuels. At least they will have to invent new reasons for war.
