Ditch the Mortgage Payment and Go Live in a Tree (PHOTOS)
Like other tiny homes, treehouses can mean less waste and less consumption.

Treehouses Aren’t just for Kids

Housing market (still) got you down? Need a little escape? No worries—take your anxiety right up a tree.

Tiny houses are increasing in popularity as a growing number of people are forgoing the bloated McMansion in favor of efficient, streamlined lifestyles. Not only are these smaller abodes more cost efficient, they can also be far more energy efficient than regular homes, including many small apartments.

While most tiny houses are planted firmly on the ground, these tiny treehouses have the added benefit of height. Some are unique for their design aesthetics, others because they’re made entirely with repurposed and reclaimed materials.

Whatever their special traits, these tree dwellings are inspiring enough to make you want to ditch the excesses of traditional living and scale down into a little piece of Zen.

I read this earlier this morning and laughed out loud. I think it's probably a great idea for some, but not for everyone. Though working with nature and not against nature should be our goal.

That is uniquely cool, no doubt! Yes, these problems as mentione by Terry remain of course. but frankly, looking at some examples here there isn't really such a huge difference to living in a mobile trailer home!
I am so lucky I guess, if I open my bedroom windows I do live in the woods among trees.

Given that about 8 percent of the US population live in mobile homes (over 18% in SC) you make an excellent point Angelika (data used and for each state at: http://www.statemaster.com/graph/hou_per_of_hou_uni_tha_are_mob_hom-housing-percent-units-mobile-homes).

They are kind of whimical, like out of a fairy tale. I think it would be great to have one as a retreat but the Canadian climate might make most of them a little daunting in winter.
