besides continuing to care2, if you can afford it I think Trees for Life is about the cheapest tree planting organization/charity you can support...only 10 cents per tree US........they will let you choose countries to plant in also......

Thanks JL. Trees and all plants are beyond wonderful. I'm glad some people are trying to keep up with the rapid deforestation/clear cutting in Africa, and the inevitable desertification that is associated with the loss of plant growth anywhere in the world. However, I think this maybe a "feel-good" type of activity with no real progress. The trees planted are not part of productive ecosystems, just short lived monoculture trees for human only use.

Not just Africa is affected by the tremendous loss of forests and supporting structures, the whole world is via climate change, wind variables, life form extinctions. Short term profits for humans ever increasing numbers and long term effects on the planet.

This is great news.
In South Africa we have many thousands of hectares of land over mining areas that just stand unused why on earth can they not be treed. That would at least help to reduce the negative impact mining has on our environment.
