See why the spending vs. taxes debate is largely meaningless and how the real runaway spending is not in programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security - but in a tax code that disproportionately benefits corporations and the super rich.

This is exactly what I've been saying all along. The super rich & their loopholes, offshore accts. and jobs overseas...So what do we have to do? besides keep complaing to our congressmen who turn a deaf ear.

Very well done video. Quick and simple enough that all can understand the concept. Loopholes, and indirect subsidies for the dumbest things. If one can afford to buy the land and build a golf course, why should the taxpayers underwrite that individual or company? The amount of money that are actually wasted and ignored by so called fiscal conservatives is mind blogging. As they reach around to pat their backs for cutting programs that feed children and the elderly; they completely ignore the cuts that would come near their wealthy buddies. The last time the government behaved so badly toward fellow US citizens, there was a massive reaction by the people. The answers to that were within the New Deal, perhaps it's time for New Deal to address the issues of our time.

As long as the Republicans control Congress, the tax code will never be fair. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer because that's the way the Republicans think that things should work.

You know when you actually add everything up in a realistic sense; the deficit is actually 143 Trillion Dollars and the unfudged unemployment figures closer to 27% of the overall population. The derivatives market is something that needs to be brought under control as well as the government funding to their already rich cronies.
I wonder what would happen if majority of the people all stood up and said no more taxes until actual, realistic financial, fiscal and government campaign finance and spending reforms are in place?
Zurich and Berlin would be in shambles.

Noted, signed and added my email to their list. If this is in fact true and it is that simple, what the heck are we going to do about it?! Congress is not doing their job and we can't get them too. I've never been so disappointed in my country!

Actaully it doesn't matter who's in power. They're all guilty of this. When you're that wealthy through "investments" or patronage you're not going to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

not surprised

CONGRESS IS A FAILURE

.....WHAT DO THEY CARE.

THEY'RE SET FOR LIFE WITH THEIR BIG BANK ACCOUNTS (HIDDEN OUTSIDE OF THE U.S.)

When you consider the pay and what they do to earn it (asleep in session, solitare on their laptops, quibble among themselves resulting in constant deadlock etc.) their salaries are pretty darn good, no reason to work harder for the people who they REALLY work for ... check members of congress according to wealt, they're satisfied or seeking more ways to increase pre-retirement wealth. Add to that Obama is still fundraising (in Chicago on Wednesday ... I know this because I live in Illinois and everyone is getting slammed with calls to rally in protest regarding the Keystone Pipeline).

Check the workings of your current reps and vote with prupose next time around ... the stakes are high and we all own a part.

I beg to differ. See this video:

http://www.learnliberty.org/videos/would-taxing-rich-fix-deficit

Basically, you'll remove the incentive for people to create businesses and inventions if you tax them to the point where they lose almost half of their income. Also, if you increase taxes on the rich, they'll just stash their money overseas to avoid the taxes. Basically, if we increase the taxes on the rich this much, the economy will go in the crapper.

Bottom line: Reduce spending. The government spends most of its money on: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Defense, and the debt interest.

Incorrect Lisa--the government and taxpayer pay nothing for social security--recipients do. This tells you how to reduce spending by not underwriting those who do not need it.

All Governments are the same , not just the U.S. Everyone must take a cut in pay and conditions while people
with money are not affected,,will never change because they make the rules.

The corporations and wealthy getting subsidies (tax breaks) are not broke John--they are wealthier than ever.

Lisa Z, they already do ship their money overseas to keep from paying their fair taxes. When the top marginal rate was 91% it didn't keep people from investing.

What needs to be done is to make it a felony punishable by life imprisonment for using offshore tax shelters and the corporate death penalty for companies which do it.
