You know what's happening. Wages have been stagnant for a generation, and the fastest growing jobs in our economy are also the lowest paid. Fast food, retail, home health, child care and security jobs are growing, but almost always, they don't pay enough to even cover all the basic necessities like food, clothing and rent.

It doesn't have to be this way.

We can restore the minimum wage. We can support workers fighting for the right to organize. The President can sign an executive action requiring private businesses contracting with the government pay a living wage. But it won't happen, if we don't demand it. That's why, this summer, the Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus will travel across the country highlighting the faces of income inequality and fighting for an economy that works for everyone.

Join the fight to Raise Up America and demand solutions that put more money into the pockets of working people right now.

Progressives in Congress will kick off the Raise Up America campaign this Friday at the Netroots Nation Convention in San Jose, California. We'll partner with Fast Food workers in New York City, retail sales clerks in Chicago, and military uniform makers in Tennessee. We'll join low-wage workers in protests, rallies, forums and actions across the country to call attention to the people hurt by income inequality in America.

Because big, profitable employers like McDonald's and Walmart must learn that better wages for their workers isn't just the right thing to do, it also means millions of families will have more money to spend at their stores and raise up the entire economy.

It's time to raise pay for American workers. Join the fight to Raise Up America right now.

The needs of low wage workers have been ignored for far too long.

It's time we all stand up. Together. Today.

Thank you for your leadership.

-Charles

Noted, signed, twittered and google shared. Thanks Judy. It seems that every thing that should be done the right way now requires a petition, rallies, protests and movements all across the country just to demand that which should be a given. We are indeed in a pathetic lethargy in regards to our government, unless of course it involves money, destruction of anything of value (environment, animals, human rights, food, equality for all) and the push to make the 1% even more powerful and wealthy. Disgusting.

The current Congress is so screwed up and wasting time with legislation that only serves to be divisive, rather than legislation that could get people back working and stimulate the economy. This bill by Franks R- Arizona just passed by the House is a prime example of misplaced priorities. And of course, since Boehner, a Republican/Teabagger, is the Speaker, he largely controls what hits the floor for discussion.

Get the priorities straight and people working so that they are able to contribute. Republican/Teabaggers, quite throwing the economy and the American 99% in the crapper!

Raise Up America is a very good concept. The business model that we are increasingly subjected to is the opposite. The Wal-mart way of doing business is based on exploitation of lowest-paid labor, making low quality goods, sold for relatively low prices, which is a shabby way to do business. Only the corporation's enormous profits matter. igned. Thanks, J.L.
