They must be joking.

Today, the House of Representatives Transportation Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee is considering a bill that will slash Amtrakís budget by a third in 2014--putting Amtrakís future very much in jeopardy.

To make matters worse, the bill, if passed, doesnít include even a dollar for the High Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail Program.

No, itís not a joke. This is real. Click here to tell your representative to reject this bill and fully fund Amtrak and high speed rail.

If this bill passes, the future of passenger rail in the United States will be in peril. We need to fight back hard, and make sure everyone in Congress knows we wonít stand for these cuts.

President Obama has made it clear time and again that he expects better of Congress. He proposed that the 2014 budget include $6.7 billion for passenger rail. They havenít listened.

Itís time to send a clear message to Washington: reject these cuts to Amtrak, and fully fund passenger rail in 2014

We can stop this, but only if we act right now.

Thanks for keeping up the fight.

What? Bring the United States rail out of the 19th century?

Thank You for Your Help

Not completely sure he knows that we have moved beyond the horse and carriage.

I may never be able to afford to travel on rail, but the loss of it would kill a piece of my spirit.

JL - Signed & noted - love taking the San Joaquin route, faster to take the train from SF to Madera instead of driving and the train will drop you off at Merced to catch the bus to Yosemite

Submitted! I was just thinking the same before reading the text with it: they must be joking. It was promoted and promised just recently, now this. Why are we still surprised, I wonder..

Oh my, if I take the train from here to San Antonio, it is no less than 7 hours, before Obama it was nearly ten hours. Obama gave the passenger trains priority over the freight trains. I can drive it in 4 and half hours.

I think Congress is afraid the High Speed Rail will take our breath away...to much speed. Give us another 50 years to catch up.

We had a shovel ready project for High Speed rail set to go from Orlando to Tampa, which eventually would also connect to Miami and to Daytona Beach. Years in the making, passed every environmental hurtle and anything else that was needed. Both Republicans and Democrats in agreement to it and our Tea Bag Governor, Rick Scott, told Washington to keep the money.

What a jerk, all it did was give more funds to some other State for their project. Needless to say, there are Republicans that are not too thrilled with this Tea Bagger either.

Petition signed.

Many other countries have high speed rails and they do save money on fuel costs (Japan + others)..
Plus high speed rails are also ecologically better than fossil burning transports.
