Frankly, I'm a bit surprised that anyone would now be surprised by this article, as it was common knowledge on the street during the 60's "the man" was testing various pharmaceuticals, including psychotropics, for use as both truth serums and mind control, and that not all was done on informed volunteers.

I'm with LD B., And i have actually talked to someone who was given LSD while in the military without his knowledge or consent.
And he has so far received no compensation as some others have.
And while we make look back on the J.Edgar with a jeer of contempt and some jokes, there is no doubt that he to ruined many a life during his never should have happened time of tenure and power.

I have unconfirmed suspicions, about even young Children being given powerful mind-altering drugs; this needs to be researched more. I suspect this is REALLY deeply hidden. I came across this under accidental circumstances where I wasn't supposed to know of it. It has bothered me for a long time.

I know that Universities' research departments were involved in drug testing & research, as well as the Military and the CIA. The University of Washington was among them. Somebody I knew {very slightly} apparently died under mysterious circumstances; and there was never any explanation or investigation, by the University of Washington, the Police, or anyone. He was just dead. A college student, who had probably "volunteered as a test subject", as many of us did in those days, for extra money {for far more harmless tests -- at least I think they were!}.

The German and the Japanese doctors did fiendish "experiments" on helpless people: prisoners, and for the Germans, Jews. They kept meticulous notes. Some of the "experiments" were scientifically worthless. Most were experiments that it would not be ethical to conduct on ANYone -- such as, seeing how much cold a person could endure before he died {important to know for a country's fliers downed at sea, for example}. Many also involved psycho-active drugs. The U.S. OFFICIALLY condemned the experiments, branded them ALL {for publicity purposes} as "worthless", and supposedly destroyed the records as "of no value to Science".
HA, HA, HA!
Thru "Operation Paperclip", the U.S. "rescued" all but the very WORST of the scientists, brought them {and their complete notes} to the U.S., and QUIETLY TOOK UP THE RESEARCH WHERE THEY HAD LEFT OFF.
{After all, it DOES benefit our military to know at what temperature a man freezes to death -- and we didn't have to be responsible for the gruesome experiments! They were already done FOR us!}
I mean..... why waste all that hard, meticulously-accurate-and-recorded work already done???!!!
