The US Fish and Wildlife service is requiring comments by February 14, 2011 regarding their evaluation of using glyphosphate-tolerant GMO crops in lands managed by the National Wildlife Refuge System. This includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesot...

Are there many midwestern folks on here?

Be prepared to be as aggressive with your opinions on GMO/GE crops as the USDA and Monstanto are with theirs. They will do what they please, unless you stop them.

They force their crops on you, how will you force them to stop? With letters? Emails? Petitions?

Unlikely.
Citizens fight back by uprooting GMO crop fields

We need a million man march on the white house to get their attention regarding GMO crops!
I like Sir Walk's idea...let's uproot everything GMO and burn it like the Haitians burned the GMO corn from Monsanto.

Thanks for this post Keith. There has to be a way to stop them, seeing as how the politicians are not. Maybe a million people march on the White House as Marilyn, above has said. If they start planting these GMO/GE's here in my province in Canada, I am willing to go and pull them out.
Wow I didn't remember that the Haitians burned the GMO corn, maybe that could be done too, if we are careful. I have signed so many petitions as so many others have...guess we just have to keep it up until they get fed up.
Avoid buying any products with GMO/GE's..that may impact their wallets!!!!!!

I certainly have signed everything against GMO I have come across! We can improve our Karma simply by choosing to go organic veg, first of all.

Hey Keith, I'm from Missouri, home of the infamous Monsanto. Monsanto is NOT my friend, unfortunately they are the wealthy friend of too many of our congressmen and women here. (There are exceptions, of course.) Thanks for this article. I continue to send e-mails, sign petitions and write letters to the editor here as much as I can.

This has just got to happen, don't matter how, even if they want hand,to hand, we have got to get rid of this killer crap. And would you know the big money, and the catholic church is right in the middle of MOSANTO, and they would love to be able to tell you, and me what to plant, what to eat, you will nether be able to buy nor sell. That is closer than you know. Roman Catholic???????

I grow some vegetables in my garden- and although I am living in Australia and the cost water is preposterously high- I still prefer to eat my own vegetables- and although I need to buy some fruits and veg and other food I try to screen as much as possible and it eat organic foods. I am not a total vegetarian as I eat fish but the amounts are small.
Even if you eat meat you can try and screen what your eating. Our body is the most precious thing we have, but many people spend all their efforts on guarding their possessions which obviously they consider more precious. It's time to invest in the welfare of our body and even if organic foods are more expensive, we can just eat a little less- and not have to worry about dieting etc..

We can boycott these companies producing GMOS- if we don't buy they have no power.. Just say NO to them and mean it.

Yes, Sir Walk, we have to rip the crap out of the ground if that's what it takes. The problems with boycotting are several: First, since items containing GMO's are not labeled, it's hard to know what to boycott, Second: At least in the US, nearly everything on the grocery shelf contains some form of Soy, which is almost all GMO, and, of course, they don't have to reveal this. (Things like lecithin, enzymes, etc)

The goal MUST be to do away with GMOs over time. It can't be done overnight, but the first step needs to be NO new fields planted in GMOs. After this, begin ploughing under GMO crop lands and replanting REAL seed so we can eat REAL food again. This needs to also be done in conjunction with less and less pesticides and less fertilizers. If we can't make some intelligent changes we are doomed. We will kill Mother Earth and our demise will be set. Too many people think that we MUST feed EVERYONE for ever. There are too many people on the planet at the present, but there still is enough food for everyone, it just is not being distributed properly and more and more of it is STUPIDLY being used to make biofuels. More COMMON SENSE is needed by leaders around the world who will say NO to big companies wanting to make even MORE MONEY! But then, I think some of those leaders enjoy the money and support they get from these same mega-corporations. Greed and stupidity will bring about our ultimate end. Hopefully we will have left some creatures behind to go on living in peace without us.

Petitions and emails don't seem to be having any effect. I've lost track of how many I've signed. Stronger tactics are needed.
