It is hard being someone with diabetes. One day, fatty fish like salmon are extolled for being a valuable healthy food that I should include in my diabetic diet in large portions. The next day ....

Cold water Salmon is the safest. A small amount every week is ok. The best thing to prevent diabetes is to cut out all refined flours and sugars. Think brown and grainy no white anything! Boring ,but it does the trick Adding moderate walking at least 3 days a week is even better as it stabalizes that blood sugar. Exercise and natural foods are a cure all and prevention for all diseases. It is the big pharma that don't want people to know the truth about this. Thanks FatJ

I am a diabetic and I have found no problem with salmon, smoked or not, cold water or not, wild or farmed. It all seems to do well by me.

FJ Dear One yes it must be hard and very frustrating -because there are so many differing opinions from all over. As the members have said above salmon is healthy and Tierney seems to have it all down. Take Care and thanx for the post FJ. Love & Light

Of course salmon is healthy, it gives a good amount of Omega 3 - which is good for you chholestrol - and by the way, there is probabhly as many studies out there as there are "scientists". Don't worry, keep on eating salmon.

why would you eat salmon at all? it is a living creature. there are many alternatives to sea food that are delicious and healthy. there is no reason to need to eat salmon.

not only is it contaminated, it is a living being.

if more poeple would get wise and start eating veg or vegan thier health would be better and they would also be helping the planet.

i am dibetic and dont eat any animal flesh and my sugar levels have stablized so i dont need any meds anymore. the answer to dibetes is eating properly and excerize.

The free salmon who act as nature intended were healthy, however with the blockage of their waterways so few can now live the life that was intended for them to do.
The farm raised salmon is full of antibiotics as the fish are living in too confined space so they get sick and the antibiotics keep the sickness away. But now your getting the antibiotics in your system which means a tolerance is building up in the system so when you truly need an antibiotic it doesn't work so well.
Try to find non farm raised salmon...if you can....it is nearly impossible to do anymore, at least where I live, if you choose to eat salmon.

Julie it must be wonderful to feel so superior.
We also share many genes and chromosomes with plants too; is it just that they don't scream when you blanche them?
I don't eat meat either, but I don't get on people's cases about it. I certainly didn't stop eating meat because people told me it was bad for me or a bad thing to do.
Jim's picture is of him fishing, he probably enjoys it and he likes fish; he was asking for advice not your philosophy or criticism.

It seems like this is another balancing act - between pollutants and the Omega3s that are good for us in fish. Most sources suggest, as the article did, that two servings a week are safe. But most Americans diets are too high in Omega6s and to low in Omega3s, and fish is an easy way to change that. I'm not confident enough to eat fish more than once a week. The rest of the time we eat mostly fruits and veggies and I make all our own whole-grain breads, some with soy flour and that helps too.

I did find an interesting article out on WebMD if you are interested: http://diabetes.webmd.com/diabetes-complications-9/diabetes-diet but it didn't mention the dangers of fish - sorry.

Mother Nature has supplied enough medicinal medicine on this Planet to take care of the whole population but to the ignorance of our Bureaucracy here again we sink below our standards. Salmon is excellent for the human body but we much watch the mercury content in all fish today from being over exposed to waste.
