"The baby, a girl named April because of the month she was due, was to be born with a rare disorder called holoprosencephaly that would prevent her brain from properly developing, cause her face to be deformed and ultimately result in her early death.

In just a few short months, hundreds of thousands of readers driven to the site from other anti-abortion and religious sites praised the mother for her strength and her devout Christian faith."

This really makes me angry. Now it'll be harder to trust the ones out there that really need help and are suffering from these kinds of situations. It's sad too that someone would do such a thing.
Thanks Dee.

Me too Kathy, I don't think it is sad, but disgraceful and disrespectful for all the Mothers out there who really ARE carrying babies like this! Thanks Dee

Empathy and trust is good, but VERIFY first... until trust is built up enough to do away with that... A neutral third party is the only way..

Even companies need to verify what is going on inside themselves financially, etc...

There is some thing so very wrong with this woman (is it a woman?) that she needs to brought to justice for these actions. This is not an abortion issue as much as an appeal to human side of all us that would want to help people in need. Eric is correct, verify and then double check. There are just too many scams out there. Sounds like some thing from a bad TV show. Shame on her/him/it - I do hope a prosecution is in the future here.

It's not funny, there are women who go through painful dilemmas and such a hoax is not funny at all.

Kit, I agree with you, there is something wrong with this woman (Becca Beushausen). She sounds like a heartless sociopathic con artist. I would think that it would be a federal crime to fraudulently solicit charitable donations across state lines. Mostly, this is a sad example of how low some people will go to get money.

Like the article says, "People now are going to look at people who are really in need with skepticism," she said.

"It's not fair to people with real tragedies who need help and prayers." That outrage spread as readers pieced together more elements of the deception, eventually outing "April's Mom" as Becca Beushausen, a 26-year-old from Mokena, Ill., a town outside Chicago.

"She was feeding off people's sympathy. She was making money of people," Gibson said. "She wasted the time of so many people who could have been helping real families in need," she said.
