"According to city officials, Moore started the fire during the early morning hours of June 13th. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they say the house was fully involved.

They won't say how or where it started, but they called the situation "dangerous" and "unbearable."

Officials don't believe Moore meant to kill Avion but they say she did know the girl was home at the time of the fire. Ultimately, Bell died as a result of her injuries, and three firefighters were injured trying to save her life; Captain Doug Faulisi was seriously injured and may be out for up to a year."

Arson because it does kill and injure needs stiffer penalties. If arsonists or mentally ill or just criminals, a prosecution for murder or attempted murder should be considered. This is equally applicable to drunk drivers.

I am glad she was charged as she was..Regardless that she said she didn't mean to kill her child..As it was stated..she knew Bell was in there alone and unattended..I don't know what could be more important than being at home with a 10 year old child..that a parent would take off for and leave them alone in those hours of the night/early morning..

So sad for Bell..

Totally agree w/ you Dee. I have a 10yr old & I don't even leave her by her self for no reason. Not even just to go to the corner store.

I hear you Cheree..I felt the same with mine..
But..even those parents who do have to have latch-key children..do not leave them in the wee hours of the early morning..as this Mother did..

Oh dear another parent that left her child alone in the house.When will parents learn,isn't there anyone who can take care of the child while the mother is gone?
