"The horse flipped in the paddock and hit her head cracking the base of her skull. She died before she could even be euthanized.

Itís My Day's trainer was Robert Reinacher Jr. and her rider was Miguel Mena.

She was the number seven horse in race one."

What is really sad with these race horses..is that there can be psychological and physical trauma that doesn't immediately surface after a race..As they are gearing up for the race..horses are often in a survival mode and have no awareness of where their legs are..Racing the hill on the track causes much stress and trauma to their legs..
Also race horses are usually high strung because of the all the feed supplements that are added to their feed..that most horses don't get..That and being in a stall most of the day rather than being turned out to pasture when they are done working can make them hyper too..They actually try to flip over backwards..And that is what can not only be dangerous for them..but deadly for some..as in this case..
Very sad indeed..

This just brakes my heart these special animals...I will never forget the movie about "Ruffin" when she woke up out of the drug (after they repaired her leg) she woke up running and ended up getting more fratures...reduces me to tears. THEY HAD TO PUT HER DOWN.

These horses are just running to their death, due to all of the GREED that this industry has...They are NOT GIVEN ENOUGH TIME TO FULLY GROW INTO THEIR SPECIAL BODIES, thus all of these so called accidents...which to me ARE NOT ACCIDENTS, IT IS JUST ALL OF THE BIG BUCKS AND THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.

WISH THERE WAS MORE THAT COULD BE DONE, RIGHT NOW I CAN BARELY SEE TO TYPE (JUST SOBBING), AS I LOVE HORSES SO MUCH, AND, WITH THIS RACING SEASON HERE IN DEL MAR, I LOOK IN THE NEWSPAPER, ONCE IN AWHILE, WHEN I SEE A DNF (DID NOT FINISH) I ALWAYS TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HORSE...NOTHING MENTIONED. TRULY JUST BREAKS MY HEART.

THEY NEED MORE LAWS TO PROTECT THESE ANIMALS, I REALIZE THAT HORSERACING WON'T STOP, BUT IF WE COULD SOMEHOW GET SOME NEW LAWS PUT INTO EFFECT TO PROTECT THEM IT MAY HELP...GOD HELP THEM...
