"Members of the APD, SUNY Police and St. Rose security were going door to door in Albany's Pine Hills neighborhood. And while not everyone is excited about the return of the college kids in the most student dominated section of the City, the message for kids from law enforcers: Welcome back, here's what you can do to stay safe.

"We call it the ABC's of safety. A: Always walk with people, three or more. B: Always be aware of your surroundings. C: Control how much you drink," said Thomas Gebhardt, SUNY Director of Personal Safety and Off-Campus Affairs."

The students really appreciate the added security and that they are making great strides to keep them safe..

Does more security make us safer? We are becoming a police state. Where I grew up I never once saw a police in the schools now they are there the whole day during school hours. I have to question are they really making us safer? Was there this level of violence before the police were there all the time?

Of course there was crime and violence..and far too many students have been murdered..raped..attack..All one has to do is read/watch the news..

This nonsense about being a police state is sad..Seems the same ones who cry "police state" are the sames ones who will also condemn the police if they are not around..

Crime is already down in many areas where they have upped the police patrols..And that is a good thing..To me at least..as I said far too many students have died..
