A jaguar has been shot dead after it was used in the Olympics torch relay in Manous, the army said, after escaping it's handlers and attacking a soldier. Organizers for the Rio Games said it was a mistake to exhibit an Olympic torch next to a wild animal

Take a beautiful animal from the wild. A female from a critically endangered species. Sit it next to a flaming torch when you know that that is what you would use in the wild to keep animals away/at bay. Surround it with crowds of people knowing that this is one of the most elusive animals on earth. Surround it with noise knowing it has ears trained to listen for sounds almost inaudible to us. Shoot it dead when the creature is so hysterical that four tranquilizer darts don't touch it. Shoot it dead. Done. In less than a second. Take a good long look in the mirror. What you won't do for the power of money and celebrity.

This is another picture of negligence, lack of preparation, the shame that more enlightened Brazilians feel to know the price you pay to host the Games in Rio de Janeiro. And now the price was not exorbitant hard cash, now was the life of an endangered animal, exposed as an ordinary toy in a pathetic "ceremony" , picture of what has been until now what is being done, a poor ounce who was already living in captivity, well maintained (?) according to the spokesman responsible for the military outpost in which the murder took place, which has not prevented his tragic end. A sad end to a beautiful animal.

Noted and already signed - shocking, beyond shocking and senseless is all I can say. This poor animal was probably so traumatised and these rubbish pos didn't hesitate to just murder her. Bastard scum deserve a bullet between the eyes themselves.

This is beyond a total outrage! Most humans don't deserve the privilege of life! They are repugnant, useless, destructive, invasive parasites and they deserve a far worse fate than that which they have inflicted upon the most innocent of all creation--CONSTANTLY! Humans are not a supreme species; just a bunch of self-serving, useless, ignorant bullies!

This Jaguar, that knows joy and pain, and wanted to live, was killed because of man's folly. What a low point for mankind. I will be boycotting the Olympic's because of this. I will not watch any games.

And yet another animal dies because of human stupidity! Juma did not belong there at all but they thought how nice wit tube be to have him be present as their mascot. the only problem was that they thought only about what they wanted and not about what was best for Juma which really is to be somewhere living freely. Idiots. now he is dead and they will get off with noting. I sure hope they don't get another jaguar.

This is Brazil, ladies and gentlemen!!!! Corruption is not enough! Constant violence towards its citizens is not enough! Total disregard as to the environment is not enough! Total lack of education is not enough! A president that is on the verge of impeachment is not enough! This assassination is simply the reflection of what this shameful country is!
And now, let's "enjoy" the Olympic Games here! Exactly what the whole population "needs"! Waste of money in a place where everything else is lacking: education health, and security, especially citizenship and respect for those who mostly need it!
Luckily foreigners care about Juma, because around here the majority couldn't care less! It's a shame!!! I feel terribly ashamed of living in a place that is practically hell on Earth!
