Another reason not to have oil rigs out at sea.

And here in Florida the republicans want to drill off our beaches, award winning beaches. Shows how much they truly care about US. :(

I remember this happening in Florida a while back while on vacation...we volunteered to clean marine birds with Dove soap... it was awful!!!

Why can't we just have electric cars and boats and not worry about oil at all? I feel so sad for these animals!

I'm not sure whether there are Dolphins or Whales in the Timor Sea but if there are they are at risk of drowning if they come up for fresh air as their blow holes will clog up with oil. Also other animals are at risk if they eat the fish that are covered in oil. However I don't know what marine life there is in the Timor Sea and I'll be looking it up on Google asap.

well there you go. that's what we have to look forward to in the artic! because there will be a spill or a rupture there if we allow them to drill!!there are so many ways to avoid all that defilement of our earth, but it's so easy just to drill so we do that instead of trying other methods of energy .and we'll pay, with the loss of whole species due to the dirty discusting black sludge!and i guess we just gonna get what we derserve!

"She warned that the oil, combined with the chemicals being used to disperse it, could affect fish stocks and other marine life for generations"
Using the word "dispersed" is their hope that people will equate this to mean disappear. Not so.
Where it reads "dispersed" insert the word "flocculation" which is the chemical means of dropping the oil to the ocean bed where it will adversely effect much more marine life (but you wont see it so it don't matter.)
That is why there is nothing yet onshore and is in line with their sweeping it under the carpet approach.
That's strange though, I thought we in Australia had a leader who would be addressing such issues as a matter of great urgency. Aw silly me he is not a leader he is the prime minister.

Thanks Sophie

It’s a pity that people don’t realize the importance of this information. Thanks for posing it.

This is so pitiful!!! Why is it our animals always seem to be the ones who have to suffer for humans mistakes? There needs to be stiff penalties for these constant mishaps…

Thanks Sophie

This is the same spill that Peter Garrett, the ANTI-Environment Minister of the ANTI-Environment Rudd Government previously said had a minimal impact on birds and marine life. Mr Garrett used to sing about 'The Power and the Passion', but now that he has the power, he seems to have lost his passion.

Let's get those solar powered electrical cars made already.

What with single skinned oil carriers and rigs leaking we should turn to the obvious solar power now not in the future.
The personal interest and corruption in our politicians must end and the people must be obeyed as theiir employers. Alternative power is the only answer.
