It's the butt of jokes and the source of choice curses, but the donkey is an integral part of Mediterranean culture, and friends on Cyprus are working to protect one of the world's last wild colonies from extinction.

Why are donkeys the butt of jokes? They were Jesus' choice of steed. I think they're hunmble, gentle souls.

Thank you to these people - Donkeys are lovely companion animals and infinitely forgiving of the many abuses heaped on them from mankind -and they have served us for so long.

Answer:

Because humans feel threatened by and make fun of other creatures to try to increase their own self worth and hide their own insecurities. Couldn't agree more with your observation about these animals, they are tolerant, forgiving and very good-natured souls who have been overworked and underappreciated by humans.

Roseann Dudrick, what has Jesus have to do with donkeys? Why can't you leave alone, God's creatures?!!!! Donkeys have to abide by your laws and follow in the steps of Jesus, your saviour?!
