Folsom High School student says electives essential for achievement. Short term budget cut permanently affects the future of current students and the State.

Samia Ahmed is a very good friend of my family here in Folsom. I am proud to know her and have loved watching her grow in to a confident well educated young lady. These cuts do not just affect Samia and her two sisters and a brother BUT every child in California and actually the rest of America. The future of America is at stake with more children probably dropping out and being poorly educated how can they compete for university places and also keep America a leading country in the quickly changing world. We need everyone's help to make sure the kids keep their classes NOW

Cutting the school curriculum is the worst place to make budget cuts. The students had nothing to do with the budgetary problems in California or anywhere else. Why should they fall behind in their learning because some idiot couldn't govern or run the country?

Noted, thanks Sally. Cuts of any kind to the education of children is several steps backward for the societies affected.

This is just terrible taking electives away from students. California is in trouble but to make budget cuts against students is very unjust. These students are the future of our country! noted, thanks Sally

Electives are important for several reasons - this is not good for the students at all !

To all right wing repuboicans, lets cut welfare for big corpodrations (like Excon) and rich people instead of our kids.

The republicans have their share of the blame, but an equal part of this appears to be the democrats and the unions, from what I see so far, but I will follow the money in this story and I will let you know. I think Arnold is just playing a game here. Its not a nice game but he is stuck.

This is distressing news. I agree in that students should not bear the brunt of having electives taken out of their schedules. All kids are entitled to a solid education, and cutting these classes is not the way to go. I agree with everyone, and like Nick said, let's cut back on CEO's and big oil and leave the kids alone. I live in Los Angeles and there have been new school buildings going up all over the place the past few years. Big huge honkers of schools that are generally ugly as sin and coated in puke green and slime yellow. Hardly a welcoming sight but who cares, there will be no programmes for the kids to go too if this keeps up.

He, Schwartzzy/Kennedy (he changed his name) thinks that dumping classes is going to help the budget??? He must think that we all were part of this no education thing and as stupid as the kids that come out of these oppressed facilities. Things are kept down for a reason and will continue to be kept down until the right "why" is found.

Tell the guv to end the death penalty and release the non-violent mental patients who are in prison to community care. Release other non-violent prisoners who have served at least 1/2 of their probably excessive sentences. Each person on death row costs $90,000 per year more than he would cost the state in a mazimum security cellblock. Commute them all to life without parole. Save billions. Leave the school budgets, parks, and poverty programs alone, and get the money from the prison profiteers.

Tell the governor to LET JEREMY SMITH'S MOTHER TAKE HIM HOME! That will save more than $50,000 per year right there!

Care2 member Gina has a schizophrenic son who is being punished with SOLITARY CONFINEMENT - sentenced to prison for EIGHT YEARS. What did he do? He hit another mental patient and caused no lasting damage!

Now they want to ADD MORE TIME TO HIS SENTENCE. What did he do while in prison? They say he made terrorist threats to a guard. Of course the schizophrenic young man probably talked irrationally to a guard. Is that any reason to make Calif. taxpayers pay millions of dollars for Jeremy's torture?

Sign the petition to let Jeremy Smith go to a mental hospital or home for community mental health care. STOP CRIMINALIZING MENTAL ILLNESS TO MAKE MONEY, PRISON PROFITEERS! Please sign Jeremy's petition:

www.thepetitionsite.com/111/Justice-for-Jeremy2

There is a better way to save Calif. taxpayers. Cut the prison budget and stop being so mercenary making money off enslaving people.

Mary. I agree to a certain point. The mental health facilities are not much better. Where do you think the prisons got the idea to do what they do? The same as the torture in Gitmo. The same that fill up an Autistic child's backpack with a machine that zaps them with electricity when they do not do as they are told.
I wish there was a safe place for them to go and be really taken care of. But Mental Facilities do everything but take care of them.

But, I do agree with getting rid of non violent prisoners. My mother in laws gardeners son was falsely accused on throwing his girlfriend in the street. She has a brother who is a cop and he got 15yrs. No proof, just her word and there were witnesses for him. But, he was in Juvenile as a kid because he ran away from an abusive mother so, that went against him.

Jeremy Smith spent four years in the "hole," a six by nine space, naked. By the time they let him out,he had lost 60 pounds. He was so weak that his mother thought he would die. Mental patients act dellusional in prisons, they are often gassed, tasered, or beaten by guards and inmates. It has been alleged that when it nears time for their release, meds are sometimes withheld in order to make them act psychotic to add time to their sentences - more profits.

I know that many mental hospitals have problems that need correcting, but it would cost less and be more humane to correct those facilities, enforce human rights for patients and monitor them, than it costs to imprison people for being sick. Each prisoner costs taxpayers around $50,000 per year in the general population. Acute mental patients cost significantly more - sometimes three times the usual amount, like death penalty inmates.

HERE IS A FILM ON PRISON LIFE - LOOK AT IT AND TELL ME IF YOU WOULD RATHER YOUR SICK CHILD BE IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL, PLEASE (Beware - graphic violence, nudity, and death):

Mary, I don't care about the money. They need a safe space to thrive and it is obvious neither place gives them that opportunity. Mental Facilities vs Prisons? There is no difference. The taxpayer pays either way. Both abuse and torture and it all depends on how the guard/warden nurse/doc feel that day.

He really needs to be put in his place. I heard that there is someone already trying to get him out of office. Did you know that he(Arnold) is giving Hollywood producer millions of dollars in tax breaks on the suffering of all the children in California. He is the worse Governor in California besides Pete Wilson who tried to open a toxic dump by people's houses.

Thank you Sally! Wow, what a very intelligent and articulate student Samia is!!! With a quality education, that she not only deserves but is entitled to, imagine how much more intelligent she would become! Education is the last thing that should be cut. What a shame! Electives are a very important part of education. Both the left and right brain need to be stimulated.
I noted and will forward to friends!
