Noted !! Absolutely HORRIFIED and GUTTED by this !! My only hope (for the dogs) is that the smoke got to them first and they were spared the excrutiating pain of the fire itself. I daren't put into words what I feel towards this "boy" and what I would do to him if I had the chance but I hope he ends up in an adult prison, in VERY close proximity with some ardent animal lovers !!
Have signed and commented BOTH petitions for this, as follows .....
"I don't care how "young" he is .... he's a serial killer in the making !!! Hit this "boy" with a STIFF sentence as a WARNING to others not to even think of following his example ! What's happened to the country where I was born, and to the people who live there ? Disgusted and ASHAMED to be British !!"

A crime that injures or kills a single animal is a serious offense. A crime like this, however, that horribly kills 50 animals is orders of magnitude worse. This youth needs to be committed to a facility where not only will he do a lengthy sentence, but he will also get the kind of mental health treatment, including anger management and animal sensitivity training, that he clearly so desperately needs. Otherwise, there is a very high probability that his next victims will be people.

Animals are living beings and need the same worth put on their life as humans because life is life. Humans who murder animals are one tiny step from murdering their own kind. Therefore this crime should be treated very seriously and the punishment should not be a slap around the wrist with a fan dancers feather all soft and delicate.
That is not punishment for such a heinous deed.

IF this young person has committed this crime, he needs to be taught that he has committed a terrible crime, and that it is totally unacceptable. However, it hasn't yet been proved that he has committed this crime. So we have to wait before passing judgement.

As this boy is a minor he will go in front of a specialist youth judge, arson being considered too serious for the magistrates' court. I suspect that he will plead guilty which will give him a third off of any sentence. I hope that he is sent to juvenile detention but any punishment will be considered after a report on him. Parents are not punished except when the kids don't go to school!!!

I agree with you 100% Patricia. Not only should the young man be punished but, as he is so young, his parents should also share the blame, assuming they brought him up.
When this story broke on the news my wife and I cried, Manchester isn't that far from where I live and we were tempted to go and help but so many caring people had the same idea that the home asked people to help in other ways.
Here is a link to a local newspaper that covered that story for anyone who would like to read more, it also gives a link for anyone who would like, and is able, to give some money to help:

-noted, signed & shared (FB). I generally agree with everything said, although I would add some qualifiers. I think that the parents should be shown to be remiss in some way before they are held responsible. I have worjked with some troubled kids and have seen situations where the parents are doing everyt5hinhg they can to try to address the problems; I don't think those parents should be financially penalized. OTOH, I have seen the opposite and there should be financial penalties to those other parents. It may be hard to determine which is which on the ground.

Also, it seems clear that a boy of 15 knows right from wrong especially in this kind of extreme situation, hopefully their youth gives them the opportunity to still be salvaged as human beings and significant efforts should be made to facilitate that possibility.

IMO.

Of course he knew this was wrong, but he still committed the crime. Over 50 dogs burnt to death...... people nearby could hear them howling and crying, barking frantically for someone to help them. This is a despicable and premeditated killing of innocent dogs, who were ready for adoption. There has been mention that the 15 yr old had been attacked previously by dog/dogs, though I have no idea if this is correct. My opinion is this, whether it is true or not this will NEVER excuse what he did. I have been bit by a dog, but I still love dogs and never would I go on the rampage and burn to death 50 + dogs. This is a sociopath, lacking in any humanity.

MANCHESTER CROWN PROSECUTION SERVICE -IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE 15-YEAR-OLD WHO _DELIBERATELY_ BURNED 54 DOGS TO DEATH IS LOCKED UP BEHIND SECURE BARS AND NOT ALLOWED FREEDOM. A VERY CLEAR MESSAGE NEEDS TO BE SENT OUT THAT THIS WILL NEVER BE TOLERATED _EVER_ AGAIN -BY ANYONE! ANIMALS SUFFER HORRENDOUSLY AS IT IS WITHOUT ADEQUATE LAWS TO PROTECT THEM, AND NO MATTER THAT HE WAS "BITTEN BY _A_ DOG, HE MURDERED -YES MURDERED MORE THAN FIFTY!! AND IT WAS PRE-MEDITATED, INTENTIONAL, DELIBERATE!! - BUT FOR THE QUICK ACTIONS OF HERO MANCHESTER PEOPLE THE DEATH COUNT COULD HAVE BEEN THREE TIMES HIGHER! WE ON THIS PETITION, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US, APPEAL TO YOU _NOT_ TO DETERMINE THE FATE OF THIS WICKED BOY BASED ON THAT THEY WERE "ONLY DOGS" THAT BURNED TO DEATH IN ABSOLUTE AGONY BECAUSE ANIMALS ARE SENTIENT BEINGS WHO SUFFER FEAR AND PAIN THE SAME AS WE DO. THOSE POOR DOGS _BURNED TO DEATH_ THEY HAD NO WAY OUT, NO ESCAPE! PUT YOURSELF IN THE POSITION OF THOSE TRYING THEIR BEST TO SAVE THEM, THE HORROR OF HEARING THEIR SCREAMS -THOSE HEROIC RESCUERS HAVE OPENLY SAID THE SOUND HAUNTS THEM AND PLAYS ON THEIR MIND, THOSE POOR DOGS THEY COULD NOT REACH, COULD NOT GET TO THROUGH THE FLAMES SCREAMING AND SCREAMING... PICTURE THAT WHEN YOU ARE PASSING SENTENCE, AND REGARDLESS OF HIS AGE GIVE HIM THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE POSSIBLE -PLEASE PLEASE ENSURE HE GETS IT !

Noted, tweeted, shared and signed. This kid is a serial killer waiting to blossom. He is a threat to humans; he will gradually move up the food chain and hurt anyone weaker than he.He has no empathy, mercy or regard for life. Years ago there was a book and movie that was called "The Bad Seed." That is what this young monster in. He needs to be put away, observed, and counseled until those who are qualified to judge if he is no longer a danger. Personally, I think he should be put away for life.

For the posters saying they are ashamed to be British - please remember that it was Brits who braved the flames to rescue the other dogs and that so many people came forward to help and make donations that they gridlocked the M6 (one of Britain's largest motorways)! Due to the huge response of aid, an alternative donation centre was set up at a services stop and Police had to request that people come at the weekend to help because there were so many coming forward at once. Please don't judge us all by one depraved sadist!

Signed, I don't think though, the guilty person,
-( if it is a 15 year old, remember the teenager in question has not been charged with any thing up to this present time)>
. So if a 15yr old was found guilty of this insidious crime, that they would receive the full punishment of the law.
For me as part of the punishment , I would like the guilty person, to go to where a fire had taken place, and be made to remove the remains of those who perished in the fire, be the unfortunate victims, people or animals.
Criminals have to know for every action, there is a re-action.
Lastly saying someone would set fire to a shelter for dogs, because they had been bitten , by a dog ,- think about it, what if the same person had been injured by a person? Would that give them the right to set fire to a homeless hostel for people ?. Nonsense. - >That makes the 15 yr old very dangerous,> if in fact that is the case. -
He should face up to his own actions, as I already stated. While being kept out of society for a considerable time !
I am so sorry for the dogs, I can hardly bear to think of their distress,/ terror, but well done to the men who ran into save 20 dogs, marvelous , and the help that has flooded in is wonderful. (sorry if I went on too long} wishing the staff from the home and the dogs who survived a safe peaceful life from now on xxxxxxxxxxx

The law/government must protect it's citizens. What can be done to insure that this individual will not do this again ? Even better what can be done to discourage others from committing similar crimes. I am asking because I don't know the answer.

I can't think of a punishment that would "even the score" for this horrendous crime. This sub human should be imprisoned for life to prevent him having freedom to repeat the act.

Patricia-signed and shared-Once the whole story as to why this child burned down the animal shelter comes out then proper punishment will be implemented. This child must be held accountable for what he did or he will continue to do the same behavior over and over until he hurts another human.

He knew what he was doing! That boy absolutely should be punished for this awful crime, and the parents, also since he is under age. The desperate cries of fear and pain these poor dogs felt should haunt him for the rest of his life! Compassion and respect should be taught in school since its evident that some kids arent learning it at home

I met one of the young men last week who broke in to the kennels, he saw it on Facebook and that got all his friends to come with him to break in. He said that they used a car to break down the gates, and nearly got into trouble himself. I gave him a big hug and told him he is a hero.

I work for a well known dog rehoming charity, and the good news is that they have built a dogs home in Manchester which opened last October, as the dogs home was well needed.

Thanks Patricia.
