The first prize should go to the Bible - people have been mindlessly spouting that inconsistent dogma (but only parts of it) for two thousand years.

Agreed Alex, ;-) but have to say Nancy these are some really bad books, thankfully I only have read one on that list.

I've read the bible, as well as a couple of those on the list. I agree with Alex. People claim the bible is the word of God. I say everything is the word of God. Besides, remember that in 300AD a group of priests threw out about 3/4ths of the bible, and left us with what we have today. I suppose that means that God's word is only good 1/4th of the time. :)

Gosh, I've read 3 of the books listed..I took them with a grain of salt (over the shoulder, of course) ;-) I do appreciate Alex's and Nick's comments though! So true, gentlemen. Thank you, Nancy for this article.

Anything by Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin, Ann Coulter, and any of those other right-wing clowns would certainly top the list.

Sorry, The Da Vinci Code does contain historical facts, and a good deal of truisms. Yes, some is purely speculation, and I'm sure millions of Catholics were turned off by it. THEN again, it was a best seller for years. Somebody was reading it, enjoyed it, and recommended it: and so on, and so on.
Valley of the Dolls, written by Jacqueline Susann (1960's) was a piece of literary garbage, and stayed #1 for the longest period in bookseller history. I don't know what book took its place.

Ahhh! As soon as I saw the title of this post, I thought for sure the Bible would be listed first and foremost.

there are a lot of dumb books....those who pick on the bible don't know that the bible can't save you....it is only a book or a guide....only god can save you....so go ahead say what you want about the bible.....you can't take whats in a persons soul away from them.....people have torn the bible apart for years.....thank-you

Most of the books on the list were written to make money. The Da Vinci Code is a book of fiction & quite enjoyable, can't say I'm any dumber for having read it. The rest of the books on the list I've never even heard of. Maybe if you believed in what was written in these books you'd be dumber, but just reading for fun can't make you dumb.

You're only dumb if you take everything for granted. Read and let your own mind flow, that's how to read books. Otherwise get som manuals and use them, they should be taken for granted.
