In recent months, two similar projects have stirred concerns about their safety and their propensity to cause earthquakes. In the United States, the Energy Department is scrutinizing a project in Northern California run by AltaRock Energy to determine...

I've been saying all along that fooling around deep in the earth, extracting and playing with the earth's resources, and putting chemicals in the atmosphere cause catastrophic disruptions to the planet and environment. This is proof. When will we stop messing in our nest? Thanks, Brad!

Humans just cant seem to stop playing "GOD", messing where we have no bussiness.

when will humans learn to leave nature alone?

It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to know when you mess with nature you will get into trouble but I guess these people aren't Rocket Scientist.

I remember way back when, when the French Government were testing their Nuclear bombs in the Pacific and there was a public outcry but they continued to do so. Then suddenly they announced to the world that it was dangerous to test underground but never made it public as to why it was. They have never tested underground since.

If we had more Rocket Scientists then we wouldn't have to mine our Earth or drill Geothermal projects!

We need to really push to get resources from off planet, mining the Moon and asteriods, build proper space statons where people can live without messing up our planet any more. The human race needs to leave its cradle and start living amongst the stars!

Oh I knew it! You can't fool mother nature. Even the Army Core of engineers found this out when their dams did not hold, and they dryed up the wetlands.

It would be wise to go solar, cold-fusion. Geo-thermal is not what OUR Mother wants right now. thx Brad

Geothermal energy is currently one of the most risk-free energy sources. Before knocking geothermial energy when most needed, someone sentences it to be "dangerous". Go tell that to fortunate Icelanders who heat their homes in Reykjavik with hot water tapped from volcanic springs. Greenhouses heated in the same way are providing them with fresh vegetables and tropical fruits, even though the climate is freezing cold. Among other countries, geothermal steam is exploited as a source of energy for the production of electricity in Italy, New Zealand, the United States, Mexico, Japan, and Russia. Staying alive has always been a risky proposition!

Christoph, your posts are so positive. :) Perhaps those experimenting with geothermal energy in what appears to be a reckless way shold take lessons from Reykjavik. The difference may be that using geothermal steam where it breaks through the surface is different than drilling for it?

lain Parkes, I like your looking outward for possibilities. I grew up on sci-fi books that prefigured those possibilities.
