I hope we didn't stop with just the roping event. Leaving them to starve to death? Really? In what way was any real help provided? How about getting a petition to raise funds ($1.00) donation increments lets say for a month long request. That is something most people could do and would actually provide REAL relief for them. I am concerned about this but do not have the computer experience or knowledge to set up a donation site along with the petition. I hope some one reading this plea does. Be honest though and make sure the funds go to the burros, not your pocket.

I'm a member of PEACEFUL VALLEY DONKEY RESCUE in Santa Clarita, California. I know he works with donkeys in Texas. I will forward this to him. In the mean time, the rest of you might consider advocating for these starving burros as well. Google donkey rescues, copy and paste in this story in a letter to them, and let them know this crisis needs to be addressed. It takes grass roots efforts like this to make change. No one is going to just show up with food and trucks....the word needs to be circulated.

I am glad this was stopped; also agree that supporting rescue/feeding efforts is a good idea. I fail to see how this event would have been helpful to the donkeys; abusing animals and calling it finding a "use" for them is not conducive to compassionate, ethical behavior and is more likely to result in the animals being abused and then discarded once again. If these people were so concerned, why not simply adopt and care for the donkeys in the first place?

This is wonderful, except for the food are they going to feed them?

"HELLO AGAIN, I was just informed by a supporter that the Rodeo Event was rescheduled due to rain from 9-29-12 to 10-13-12. Therefore I have reopened the petition because I STILL DO NOT HAVE IN WRITING FROM A CITY OFFICIAL OR PROMOTER that the Burro Roping event is cancelled. On Eden Event Calendar under 10-13-12 it DOES NOT SAY no burro roping as it did on 9-29-12 page.

I will end petition before the event date only when I have official statement.

Regards Diana Reese"
