OC Comment: This is what happens when welfare supersedes abolition - the replacement of "very cruel" with "less-cruel-but-still-highly-cruel". People believe the animals are well-cared for and, rather than adopting a vegan diet to save animals,

I only buy eggs from a neighbour, whilst I appreciate that a vegan diet is the best course at least I know these chickens are well looked after, they have free run of her garden during the day, a secure cage at night and they enjoy a varied diet, including season vegetables which my neighbour and I feed them.

i can not be a vegetarian, my body has to have the concentrated protein only found in meat and there are many others like me so the solution is not for everyone to become vegan - but a reduction in animal proteins is doable which i have done. Also i have my own chickens who are very well cared for, actually friends, and i understand many urban communities are allowing hens (not roosters) although when i lived in New York City i often heard a rooster crowing which was a joy to me!

When is everybody going to realize just how deep the lies that come from the food industry are? What they tell us is as untrustworthy as what our government tells us and for the same reasons, money. Look, they don't care how they treat food animals as long as they turn a profit. They don't care what kinds of chemicals they put in the feed for either the food animals or us. They are not in business for our health they are in business for their money. They'll sell us anything they can get away with. As long as we trust them they'll do whatever they want, anything for a buck.
