In an even bigger announcement, Japan has canceled its annual Antarctic whale hunt, and plan to honor the above-mentioned court ruling.

It is indeed Awesome that these Majestic Animals will be protected from Japanese - air quotes "Research" - a Job Well Done on their behalf. I have a few vegetarian recipes that could fill Japanese stomachs to replace Whale Meat!

I'll bet their cruel and inhumane minds are working to get around this ruling.

Noted with gladness and the hope that Japan will comply with the ruling. Because the country is one of those that are guilty of exploiting loopholes in a decades-old moratorium on commercial whale hunting, however, it will likely continue with whaling elsewhere as long as possible. All loopholes should be closed without delay and without exception, so whales get the true protections they have deserved for so long. Thank you, Sea Shepherd, for your valiant effort to protect the rights of whales.

This article admits that the japanese are only cancelling Antarctic whaling. They plan on continuing their whaling program. I knew it was too good to be true.

This would be huge if they obey, so far it is also awesome that they voted in favor of animals and not humans!!

Cautiously optimistic. All my life I have heard of Japan's whaling endeavors and I am a little skeptical to think they would give it up so easily.

This wont particularly bother the Japanese because they know that they are still able to continue the slaughter of whales in the northern hemisphere. Until those countries get together and do what Australia and New Zealand did in taking the Japanese to the IJC they will continue to kill these majestic animals needlessly!

A hollow victory, the Japanese will only go north and join Island and Norway in the whale hunt. The EU will have to take all 3 countries to the international court, they will not do that, to protect Island and Norway. Japan will take advantage of that, a lose, lose situation for whales.
I do my own little boycotting, my wife is overdue for a new car. She wants a new Toyota Corolla, no way Japan! I am also close to buying a new car, it will not be a Japanese car even though I was favoring a Subaru or Toyaru if you know what I mean. Sayonara Japan, eat your whale blubber and choke on it.
I spent 2 months in Japan the first time (in the 1970's ) and had a great time, staying in ryokan inns living and eating the Japanese way. No whale, but fresh seafood, I enjoyed the food and the friendly culture. 2 years later I spent one week in Tokyo, western hotels, not the same, it was a business trip, I had no choice, western food, but still no whale meat. I so much wanted to go back ever since to relive my past together with my wife. But whale policies have stopped me. What a shame.
