Keep Schools Open for Palestinian Children

For over 60 years UNRWA has run schools for Palestinian refugee children across the region. But without notice, the USA has cut two-thirds of their funding to the United Nations agency that runs schools across the Middle East.

Many countries - including the US - endorsed the situation that caused the huge displacement -internal and transborder - of Palestinians. It is only fair that in the absence of promoting & enforcing a solution that allows the displaced to return, or at least have the means to create a sustainable life, those countries continue to support all those still stuck in "interim" conditions.

Camps become more permanent structures, but many refugees - in Gaza; West Bank, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon - are caught in a spiral that prevents most from being able to develop an independent sustainable lifestyle - well, even many of the non-refugees in the West Bank are prevented from accessing freely their lands, their trees & crops so they can barely eke out subsistence living. If you're going to endorse Israeli Occupation & oppression, you should also share the burden of supporting the victims, especially those who are still very vulnerable.

Why should the rich countries assume that the poorer neighbouring countries should absorb the equivalent of 25% or 33% of their own population?

Can't they recognise that the core of the "Palestinian problem" was the transfer of huge numbers of refugees from Europe? And that - to relieve the guilt of the West over the worst discriminatory treatment meted out to Jews (& Roma, and disabled people ...) while the West failed to intervene early enough, closed their eyes to until the camps were liberated ... So - make the Palestinians pay for the sins of the West ...

And recreate the destabilisation risks by condoning displacement of Palestinians to young neighbouring countries ...

Stop a moment - how willing is the US to absorb those fleeing from a conflict in which the US has a hand?
So - WHY refuse to recognise responsibilities, push the burden on others?

President Trump announced late last year that the U.S. will formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel – and it looks like the new U.S. embassy will be ready ahead of schedule. The U.S. embassy in Jerusalem will open by the end of 2019, Vice President Mike Pence said Monday.

The Palestinians refuse to negotiate with the USA now in peace talks as they feel that the USA is not an honest broker with that move. They do not feel that their interests would be considered honestly and fairly.

Trump has therefore said, well if you do not play the way we want we will cut back funding. So here it is, hurting the children who have no say in the matter one way or the other. I hope you'll sign and share as this petition to try to get help for these children.

Aid groups: Palestinian school under imminent threat of demolition by Israel.

January 30, 2018

"Attacks on West Bank schools are one of many elements making up the coercive environment that pushes Palestinians off their land in order to make way for Israeli settlement expansion."
