Wow! Riveting! Thanks, Agnes! Knowing that one's heart isn't beating is a profound experience. My heart was chemically stopped twice, in attempting to stop atrial fibrillation and return to a normal rhythm (not at all what this gentleman experienced); I was awake, and aware that everyone was very close by (M.D.s, etc.), but nobody bothered to tell me my heart would stop. WHOA! I figured that out really quickly! It was a very deep sinking feeling. The first attempt failed and was to be repeated; I asked if somebody would please hold my hand. Pathetic, I know, but that hand-holding made the next (also failed) attempt less awful. Things eventually worked out, not nearly so dramatically or as supremely urgently as for this gentleman. I wonder what it feels like to never again feel your heart beat? I think I'm too chicken to want to find out!
