Deep inside the verdant and sweltering vegetation of Nicaragua's Mosquito Coast, a specially trained army unit is waging a new kind of war against a new type of enemy.

That's very good. How welcome to see the word "Nicaragua" in connection with something good. It's been a while. Thanks for posting.

Sending a Green Star is a simple way to say "Thank you"

You cannot currently send a star to Agnes because you have done so within the last week.

This is great news (but it may have been posted yesterday / needs to be repeated and distributed as many times as possible) This is so necessary for countries like Brazil, Belize, Indonesia, Peru, Vietnam...just to name a few. It also should be treated as an example to base other types of military units that could control poaching, and other environmental protection causes, as well as protection of indigenous people's rights. Of course, it would need to be combined with education and economic reforms

It is sad they have to resort to having a military presence but I am glad they are taking this seriously enough to go to such extremes.

This is a fantastic action. This kind of care and respect for our environment needs to be adopted by other nations. What a great example to others. well done Nicaragua and thank you Agnes for sharing the news.

"Eco soldiers" sounds like a very good idea. We need to protect what is left of wild spaces.

Inspiring. Both feeling and action are needed for saving the earth.

Remember the saying - We have not inherited this earth from our forefathers, but have borrowed it from children. So we need to hand it over to them in the same state that we got, if not better!

Anyhow; -I Care2 Click to save a tiny piece of Rainforest EVERY day:

So far 18,5 million members have saved 9,6 acres, of wich I, as ONE out of all those, have saved 1,2 acres. Think about it...

Why we MUST save our Rainforests...
Tropical Rainforests are the most diverse ecosystems on our Planet. More than 30 million species call these regions home – that's two-thirds of all the world's species.
Rainforests function as the "lungs of our Planet“: they absorb and trap a massive amount of CO2 from the Earth’s atmosphere, keeping the natural balance in check.
The past 50 years saw the destruction of half of the World’s tropical rainforests. At the current rate, an area the size of thirty soccer fields is destroyed every minute...
...And for many, many more reasons...
