Great story Agnes! I love David Attenborough and he can't be more right. Humans are an all destroying cancer on this planet.

Of course he is right. In order to end or limit our immensely destructive presence on this planet and stop being “a plague” we need to live well within the earth's natural means. Firstly we need to produce far fewer children per family unit putting an end to such greedy practices as polygamy and the hegemony of religion and customs that prohibit birth control. How about exchanging the “Right to bear children” with “Earning the privilege to bear children”? At the same time we need to do away with the total insanity of an economic system that is fixated on never ending growth. We also need an effective education and social systems that persuades people to take personal responsibility for the health of our environment. Being wealthy and powerful should not be a license to selfishly take more than a fair share of resources. We need to finally discard the misguided and disgusting Descartian view that non-human animals are merely machines for the use and abuse of “God-like” humanity. Will we ever do anything before it is too late; I doubt it.

Humans--a plague on the Earth--hard to swallow? Not really. All I've ever had to do was look at some of my coworkers.

H'mm, a 'plague of coworkers' . . .

The only other organism that spreads so toxically across this planet as humans is: viruses.

Unfortunately, he is all too right. Now watch Mother Nature take a hint and unleash a plague on us. What with more and more bacteria getting more and more resistant to antibiotics, that won't be hard at all.

No Kidding we are the deadliest animal here on the planet..what other animal kills and mams just for the pleasure of it or is totally selfish and non caring for its kind..we destroy in the name of greed and power and kill all in our path..........we are a scourge on this beautiful place....a failed experiment!
I myself prefer the company of animals the fury kind!

He is right. There are too many people and the majority of them are the "wrong kind". They are the ones who want the money regardless of who it belongs to and want the earth paved and a complete housing development and parking lot. The rest of us would be happy to live on the earth if you'd leave us alone. We, the rest of the people, only want to live a decent life, not hurt anyone or anything including the environment.

Sadly, I too must agree with him. Too many people prefer to hide their head in the sand and ignore the problems.

Yep, he is absolutely correct. With any luck we will kill ourselves off before killing the entire planet. While millions of us care and try to change the world-there are not enough of us. There are too many that 1. refuse to believe it, 2. only care about what is in it for them-screw the rest, 3. the purposely false science being "taught" in many states, 4. the absolute greed running rampant, especially in the US, 5-how long do you have to read a list.....Those of us that are older know the weather has changed drastically. We know use of pesticides is destroying more than it is saving. We know profit trumps people in this country. We know our government is failing us right and left because too many politicians are "owned" by corporations and that is who they represent. We know the wars going on are really about profit for civilian entities-not to right wrongs in other countries. I truly worry about the future that is coming and I am glad I am old enough to have enjoyed a better time frame than our children, grandchildren and so on will be faced with if we can't get this reversed. I will continue the fight for as long as I live-as will many of us.

He is So right!! Though it may seem unthinkable, or maybe even immoral, or unethical, or whatever, humans, as an "intelligent" species, need to seriously start thinking about "the future of the many, versus the wants of the few", as in start mandatory birth control & restrictions to no more than 2 children. Gone should be the carefree days of large multi-children households. We are destroying our environment, as well as pushing many species of animals & plants into extinction due to us taking over their habitats & creating toxic pollution everywhere! Not to mention our barbaric, ruthless, random, selfish, out-of-control slaughter of the earth's precious animals!

Does he include himself? That is the human milk of kindness, blame others, but not yourself. All humans and animals are selfish, some a lot more than others. Survival and greed, David Attenborough is no differend, but knew how to make money having wildlife filmed. It was not about the animals, but himself, money and fame. His camera men and the wildlife were the real stars, not him. He just read the script in the studio.
