My goodness what a story. Rico is a friend we would all want to have, and I think many of us would like to give him the love and kindness that was absent in his life. He is a beautiful dog with a remarkable drive to recover and remain loyal to people, though why I sure don't know. Until all dog fighting is stopped there will be more horror stories like this one.

Ya don't wanna know what I'd like to do to his ex-owner......that said, this is why I so deeply love and am fiercely loyal to the Pit Bull breed. They have the ability to come back from such unspeakable horrors and still be able and willing to give another human being love, loyalty and a companionship like no other. I hope and pray that Rico gets a forever home that is equal to this beautiful boy's abilities and capabilities. I wish I could take him but i already have 2 and a mastiff.

A beautiful amazing dog - what happened to him is heartbreaking and unforgivable and the sob needs to be strung up on some pole and the absolute crap beaten out of him. Why would anyone in their right mind inflict this much cruelty on an innocent animal. These are the rubbishes that should never ever have been given a chance to even grow up - they should have been shot long before that.

Nobody can "own" an animal. You can own an inanimate object. The most you can do to an animal is kill it, and then it's free of your control.

Thank you for posting this story of Rico ~ This is dog nature. Rico is an excellent example of the tremendous adaptability and resilency of dog. But what's really impressive is the people that came together to help Rico. Now that always knocks my socks off. Because I do not hold the view that the common nature of humans is unselfish and compassionate. Willing to take a moment for another species in need. That is the exception !

What a lovely sweet boy Rico is...so forgiving, even after all he's been through! That is what I love most about animals, is their resilence & their ability to forgive & forget. Humans could take a major lesson here. Thanks Nicole for sharing this wonderful story with the happy ending. To see Rico with a smiley face now makes me soooo happy!!

Great story. Thank you Nicole and Barbara F for the forward.

"Rico’s demonstrated resilience is in part because he lives in the moment, and he’s not fixated on what happened to him. “Dogs don’t dwell on the past like people do,” said Edwards.
He accepts living without a tongue.
“Rico has no idea he is without a tongue, and he doesn’t look at other dogs with their tongues hanging out and feel a sense of inadequacy,” Edwards explains".

If humanity had just a touch of Rico's love, kindness and forgiveness, we would be almost as wonderful as dogs are, we may never make it to be as good and kind as they are, but we would be closing in on it. Love and Blessings ton Rico.

Thanks for sharing Nicole...this is so sad. I can't believe how horrible humans can be. Why do they live? I wish there was a plague that attacked animal abusers. I'm glad Rico is better and stronger and much more forgiving than me. I own a pit and i am a believer that he is a kind gentle soul and i do not have fear i feel protected this is a story that needs to be share and i will do so the poor pit has been given unfair reputation and it is so wrong a few people have made this happen wrongly to the pit and we need to reverse the thinking to the public and officials it's not breed but bad ownership!

The more I read stories like this the more I think that the human race is the most evil, cruel and disgusting race of the earth, a kind is destructive to their own similar both to the animals. It would be interesting to know how it built the fountain of which are mentioned in the article. Maybe in this way could possible to save the lives of other dogs. If any of you know the author of the article could be important and we could also pass this information to some vetshere in Italy. For the translation there are no problems :-) I've a friend Mariangela that will do it. If you have any news in this connection please send me a message ok? Thanks a lot and ciao!
