These are the kind of people that deserve to be in prison.... not people with Illnesses, committing pretty crimes.

Only $100,000.00 in bond ?

It should be so high there is no chance of these people getting out. When you have no doubt a crime of this torment and torture is committed.

This is what prisons was intended for, not to be hospitals or house shop-lifters and pot smokers.

People need to wake up to the injustice running wild within the criminal courts and sentence guidelines.

Get out vote and change things. The criminal codes and guidelines are so unbalanced.

Those people deserve the death sentence. I know that a lot of people on Care2 are unequivocally opposed to the death sentence, but if hate criminals are merely imprisoned, even for life, they will cause problems even in prison, and there's always a chance they could get out again. I think it is cruel and unusual punishment for me to have to live in the same country with degenerates like that. In cases where people commit crimes against humanity, I think they have forfeited their right to live among human beings. I understand those who say that the death penalty is inhumane, but for criminals like that to have to be supported at taxpayer expense for the rest of their lives in prison, is a crime against taxpayers. It is fine to abolish the death penalty in countries less violent, less racist, and less sexist than the U.S., but I think that as badly as it is often misapplied here (disproportionately against minorities and often unfairly against battered women), in a case like this it would promote the general welfare.

OK...first off, kidnapping is a federal offense, and I can't believe how low the bond is!!!
Mark.....this deserves worse than a death sentence, which by the way, I am all for when it comes to crimes of violence and murder!!! Hate crimes......should be punished with the maximum sentence possible, as they are human garbage with no respect for life, regardless of race, creed or color!!! No matter how much jail time, they will never change their mindset!!
Noted and thanks for the post Jon.....

We as women has the right to protect ourselves and we should not be used as some men raped us. I am totally against rape. We need to protect ourselves to attack the suspect like fight back if their is know back up. When a suspect try to attack us fight against the opponent to defend yourselves. Learn to take Karate to defend yourself is important. If nobody else can't defend you then you need to protect yourself.

Despicable behavior, well worthy of lengthy prison sentences - that's fair, I think, after what the malefactors inflicted upon this poor woman!

While it's disgusting for anyone (Male OR Female) to commit any type of sexual assault, can you believe two mothers with their children?! This is disgusting, horrific. There are not enough words to describe this outrage.

And if there were enough words, I'll bet they couldn't read them. They probably have a big-screen TV, a house full of violent and porn videos, a few racist pamphlets, and not a single book in their house.

Mark, I favor the death penalty in some cases but I don't think it is a good idea in this case. In the future if people think that they would get the death penalty for this crime even if they don't commit murder, they would figure that they might as well just kill the victim. After all, she wouldn't be alive to testify against them and the penalty would be the same if they are caught. I do think that they should spend most if not all of their lives in prison. These mothers are disgusting.

Esther, they may have been intending to kill the victim and just hadn't gotten around to it yet. These are not the sort of people who calculate consequences. If they were capable of thinking past their actions to what the consequences might be, they wouldn't do things like that. These are not people who weigh and plan things--they don't have enough intelligence for that. They are neither educable nor rehabilitatable. If warehousing them were cheaper, and there were a way to quarantine them from the general prison population so that they wouldn't infect others with their unthinking hatred and perversions, I could see sparing them the death penalty.

If they had any respect for human life whatsoever, there might be a reason to let them live. What they did, in my opinion was a hate crime, but not just a crime against a person for being black or for being female. This was a crime against life by people who have no respect for life. They think other people are just objects to be tortured and destroyed for their amusement.

I only support the death penalty in cases of crimes against life itself, where the criminals have no respect for life and cannot be educated or rehabilitated. Human rights violations are crimes against life. Genocide is a crime against life. Atrocities are crimes against life. Those who have been given the gift of life and instead of showing gratitude for what they were given, show disrespect for life and a total lack of empathy for other living creatures, forfeit their right to retain their lives as surely as someone would forfeit their right to keep a gift if you gave them an expensive present and instead of saying thank you, they threw it at your feet and cursed you. Instead of torturing someone, they could have been out helping others and making the world a better place. Even somebody born with almost no brain and very little physical capability, can still smile at others, show their appreciation for their own life and the lives of others, and brighten the world. Why shouldn't our tax money go to give people like that the love and care that they deserve, instead of to warehousing monsters like these?

I don't know what to say. Words, including the all-powerful phrase "Out of a horror movie," probably cannot even begin to describe the ordeal that woman went through.

But I will say the $100,000 bond must be some kind of sick joke. It has to be. There are people who have to pay far more than that after being arrested for drug possession, which is a charge that doesn't even hold a candle to this sort of crime.

Disgusting, utterly and completely disgusting. I'm with you mark. Death is what is deserving in this case.

I agree that $100,000 bond is an absolute joke. The Jena 6 had higher bails than that for standing up to injustice. These people comitted a hate crime so horrible that words cannot describe, and they only have a $100,000 bail? It just goes to show how much racism plays a part in our judicial system. This makes me sick.

Heather, you've said exactly what I would have said : The Jena Six had higher bail for a schoolyard fight !

These people are so sick and disgusting, I can hardly believe people like this exist !

They should throw the book at them !

I am NOT for the death penalty, as a matter of principle, too many mistakes have been made, too many innocent people executed; but better punishment for these sadistic racists would simply be for them to get life imprisonment, sharing their cells with African-Americans, and letting the other inmates take care of them every bloody day of their lives !

Mark, I understand and agree with most of what you have stated. However, I have heard of cases in the past where someone had kidnapped someone else and because they faced the death penalty they killed the person because they figured they had nothing to lose. If the person lived, they could identify and testify against them. They figured that the penalty would be the same whether they killed the person or not.
