Thursday, May 31 brings us the second of two full Moons for North Americans this month. Some almanacs and calendars assert that when two full Moons occur within a calendar month, that the second full Moon is called the "Blue Moon."

So it used to be a fourth full moon in a season, not a second one in a month, that was deemed to be "Blue" - the cool stuuf we learn on Care2.com!

The ancient Greeks called this a blue moon, when the moon appeared twice in a month. That's where the term once in a blue moon comes from.
We haven't had one in three years, thats how rare this is.
