Tibet I have a hard time even writing about the news from Tibet. To many people in the US it's some faraway place which is the pet project of a few effete actors. It is way more than that. It is unique in the world, but not because it's beautiful. Most of the planet is beautiful. It's culturally extraordinary, but that's not unique either. Tibet has become a test for the world because of who the rest of the world is.. . . read more about Tibet

China and the U.S., forever locked in a soulless embrace

The U.S. and China are two of the most important nations on the planet. One is known for torture, eliminating political opposition a government shrouded in secrecy.

The other is China.

And right now, China is doing it's best impersonation of the Bushian War Machine to let the world know the horrifying threat it faces in Tibet, lead by the blood-thirsty and sinister [sic] (and exiled) Dalai Lama.

All torture is wrong, tho The U.S torture does not come close to China's Torture, & I have lived all over the world including all over the U.S.A (with the exception of New York) & the rest of the country does seem to know about what is Tibet & would not want the people there being tortured. The Falun Gong are also being oppressed in China & having their organs stolen too.
ALL NATIONS SHOULD BOYCOTT OLYMPICS IN CHINA!!! Thanx for helping Rosa.

The least we can do is sign this petition. So many years in the shadows, the Tibetan people MUST persevere for their freedom NOW.

I just signed an other urgent petition calling on the Chinese government to respect human rights in Tibet and engage in meaningful dialogue with the Dalai Lama. This is really important, and I thought you might want to take action:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/tibet_end_the_violence/98.php/?cl_tf_sign=1

After nearly 50 years of Chinese rule, the Tibetans are sending out a global cry for change. But violence is spreading across Tibet and neighbouring regions, and the Chinese regime is right now considering a choice between increasing brutality or dialogue, that could determine the future of Tibet and China.

We can affect this historic choice. China does care about its international reputation. Its economy is totally dependent on "Made in China" exports that we all buy, and it is keen to make the Olympics in Beijing this summer a celebration of a new China that is a respected world power.

President Hu needs to hear that 'Brand China' and the Olympics can succeed only if he makes the right choice. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get his attention. Click below to join me and sign a petition to President Hu calling for restraint in Tibet and dialogue with the Dalai Lama -- and tell absolutely everyone you can right away. The petition is organized by Avaaz, and they are urgently aiming to reach 1 million signatures to deliver directly to Chinese officials:
