What Would You Do If You Didn't Have TV?

Watching TV gives you the opportunity to explore, educate and experience things that otherwise would have been hidden nuggets of knowledge locked away for only the rich and famous to experience. If you still aren't convinced that owning a TV is the better

Use the internet.
It's infinitely better, and under my own control.

TV is very bad, in a neurological sense.
Please watch

I didn't have TV for over a decade until the past 18 months-when I broke down and subscribed again so that I could get the paid channels. Without it I was fine. I definitely read more, and used the computer to see and learn about the type of things I wanted to see and learn. All the same information and more is available online. Television can be fine in moderate, discriminating amounts. However, I feel that it encourages a person to live vicariously through others instead of going out and and live their own lives.

Are you sure this article wasn't contracted by the network moguls and/or the TV advertisers?
Both the vast majority of programs and commercials are mentally toxic. The same old garbage over and over with the same dull plots and sophmorific commercials.
And besides, who wants to live vicariously when there's a physical, intellectual and spiritual world to explore?
What of the good programs the article speaks of? Sure, the odd one is worth wasting an hour or so on occasionally, but even they're tightly scripted and too often little more than a brief summary with a little eye cndy to keep one tuned in. And the nightly news? Please don't tell us that it's objective and unbiased. As has been said elsewhere, "The evening news is where they begin with 'Good Evening', and then proceed to tell you why it isn't."
So, thanks, I'll keep the viewing to maybe a couple of hours a week, and do some real exploring as stated above, or perhaps with TV's cousin, the internet. As well as countless benefits others have stated above, at least with it, I can electronically interact with hundreds of people around the world. And I do just that.

T.V. can be a learning experience if you choose your programs wisely. I would read more if I had no T.V. and spend more time on the computer, which I also purchased as a learning tool. No computer = No Care2

No thanks, I don't do television.

Hmm, the article contains a link to DirecTV. Perhaps they sponsered the article.

I watch TV very little. I prefer a good book or the computer. Take all the thrillers on TV, never mind the plot. they all have the same message "the police always wins, you can't escape and you'll be punished if not killed". In Europe we're overkilled by Hollywood, it's so boring !

I would probably read more and do crosswords or wordsearch, many other things. I am at the point if I ever lose my DVR I would probably watch a lot less. I am sick of all the dumb commercials. With the DVR I can pre-record the program I want to watch and fast forward thru the commericals. Saves about 20 minutes on an hour long show. The later the program, the more commercials. I think the advertizing time is cheaper than. The infomocerials are another pain in the keister. Everyone have a great day.

I have a TV but unplugged it 4 years ago. Just used it to play dvds on prior to that. I now play my dvds on my computer or watch streaming videos if there is any thing worth watching. I love listening to books while working on craft projects. Reminds me of better times when I was a child and my Mom used to read us bedtime stories. I read a lot, especially during the winter months. Nice weather-I am outside gardening, landscaping or playing with the cats. They enjoy "helping" me weed the flower beds. When they help it takes twice a slong. lol

I don't watch too much television. Some News, educational shows. To me when you have kids, there's plenty to do with them, rather than just be couch potatoes.
Thanks Jeanie

I have lived without tv for 8 years now. I have read more books, had poetry reading, watched the stars, performed music, enjoyed time with family, tried preparing new dishes ... so many things to do! Information from these tv shows can also be accessed from the internet!

I am almost, ashamed to say, that if I didn't have TV, I would lose my mind.
Being a female person, meaning we can do two things at once. I watch/listen to TV, while on the internet. Perhaps, if a didn't live alone 1/2 of the year, I could survive better without it. My cat, Black Nugget, and I like the noise.

TV, as any other media source has good and bad information, is up to you to looking for the good things. If you're just watching soap operas, you are wasting your time and your brain.
