Believe it or not, the mystical and fairy tale-like forest portrayed in these beautiful photos actually exists - it's called Hallerbos (or Halle Forest in Dutch), and it's located in Belgium.....

Thanks Frans - this was just the right "balm for my soul". I enjoyed these pics and ... admittedly felt a bit homesick. I don't miss much living abroad but wherever I was in the past - every now and then I long to have a good walk early morning in a cool forest with the wildllife just waking up. And add to that a bit of fog ... or even rain ... it would make my day a perfect one! See what you've done to me??!!

BTW - for those who haven't seen it: Frans put in a link to a petition to sign to stop continuing rain forest destruction in America:

PLEASE go there and sign - thanks :-)!!

Many thanks for sharing; vow! I'm delighted to learn about the existence of such wondrous flower carpets in centuries-old forests and to be able to revel in their beauty - if not personally, then indirectly at least.

There is a bluebell carpeted forest just a few minutes away from where I live. Every year I wait for the bluebells to come out. You only get a few weeks of the full-on bluebell carpet in the spring. This year I went for a walk in it with my mum and my cousin. My cousin is 45 and hadn't seen it before and was amazed. :-)

For God's sake don't anyone tell the oil companies or they will want to frack there. I actually expected a petition with this article to someone who wanted to start fracking tomorrow, so I am somewhat relieved, but not completely reassured. We can't have beauty existing unmolested, you know. People might start to think life might be worth living without oil.

As a child, I looked forward to spring because of the bluebell forests (in England). They held such a sense of magic .... the carpet of blue, and brilliant young greens of new leaves unfurling .... Attempts to find the blue carpets of my childhood seldom were successful as I grew older - so many seem to have vanished under urban expansion.
These photos really capture what I hold in my memory
But they are taken in a forest in Belgium.

I wonder if one can still find such scenes in England?

There Is a Mystical Forest in Belgium
- Carpeted With Bluebell Flowers...

Thank you for the beauty.....
reflecting mystic dreams.

The bluebells love their mother
and sing to her ancient songs
of mystic times
when soul was respected
especially as nature.

Once the forest was as a young bride,
dreaming, creating...... beautiful

She is still beautiful even though
have polluted her dreams.

Nature was alive, sexual, altruistic.
The majesty of Belgium
communicated throughout the Earth
to all the reverenced sons and daughters
mountains, oceans, wilderness.

---------now the aged mystical forest
trembles in the night.
The oceans scream in vibrating terror.
The mountains are themselves
quaking in monstrous fear.

And all the animals pray
without faith.

We die.

I just sent this e-mail of Hallerbos, along with the pictures of course, to my close friend in Duisburg, Germany. (His favorite color is purple.)
He was quite surprised that he didn't have any knowledge of it and grateful that I sent it to him. I suspect the forest will have another visitor, soon.
