... gravity of the allegations against the Obama IRS ...scrutiny is certainly warranted... most of the lawmakers ... had little ... to say about equally troubling revelations about the Bush administration's deployment of public resources against its opponents.

great question/article......

As a taxpayer I want the IRS to closely scrutinize any and all groups that maybe politically motivated...i.e. a front group for distributing propaganda.....I have yet to hear anyone explain how Patriot and/or Tea Party groups are charitable or service groups......

KEEP SPREADING THIS ARTICLE AND QUESTION BECAUSE THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS BUYING INTO THE FAUX NEWS-GreedyOldPoliticians complaints.........

still want to also know where the GOP/Faux News outrage is about the embassy attacks/deaths from 2001 to 2008 as well as 9/11 and "the story of why the US needed to go into Iraq to kills thousands and maim many more"

PS --- I agree that 2 wrongs don't make a right, and I am unhappy that these allegations are occurring under Mr. Obama, but I think if you want to hold him accountable you need to go back and hold those in the past accountable for the example and precedent they set......

One thing that became apparent through an ABC News article was that Steven Miller, a career IRS employee appointed as the Acting Commissioner
"'planned to leave his position in June". By the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, he could only hold that position 210 days – so he would've been out this coming June 8th no matter what.

The fellow who was in charge when this fisaco was going on WAS a Bush appointee – Doug Shulman. And he "testified before Congress in March 2012" that the IRS was NOT engaged in targeting anyone.

"And here’s the even more incredible thing: the Bush cabal didn’t just use the IRS for its political hackery – it mounted a full-scale government-wide assault on its enemies, marshaling disparate agencies in its smear efforts."

So where is the righteous indignation from the right-wing in this?

It seems that he who cries loudest is usually guilty of projection at the very least, and worse offences as the norm!

This is their usual tactic and hopefully people are intelligent enough to realize that.

It is no surprise about the abuses Bush got up to when he was President, though only thing is that everyone though Obama would of had a bit more class than use those tactics. Of course the Conservative outlets tend to get a spot of collective amnesia when it comes to the scale of abuse that the Bush administration got up to, but then perspective is never been a thing that the hyper partisan politics that the Republicans use these days I am waiting for a mass pants on fire incident to occur soon my money is on Michel Bachmann will be the first to ignite.

Faux news has tried to make this issue the second "crime of the century", the first having been Bengazi. One can only hope there are more Thinkers than Mouth Breathers in this country. Sometimes I wonder....

I would like two things to begin with: accountability of all our leaders; transparency in all their decisions and finances.
The I would like the IRS to cause all agencies and organizations and individuals lobbying for political gain, influence and power to have their 501 charitable status revoked. Let them pay taxes like everyone else - including Scientology and the Catholic Church or any religious organization and I don't care what denomination or faith you are.

Actually, it seems to me that it should be Homeland Security investigating all these Tea Party/Anti-Obama people - but I can also see why the IRS would be interested in them. We know they would do most anything for political gain. As for he who should not be mentioned, his administration was so blatantly rotten that nobody dared to speak out....

I want to know why the IRS isn't targeting ''churches'' which use tax-exempt profits to influence politics!

Considering the chaos Congress has caused this country~why not assign a committee to investigate and go on about more important matters, instead of looking for headlines?

What exactly is NEW about the IRS targeting groups or individuals? That practice has been going on for decades, so why the outrage now?

Well, let's see here. The IRS "Flagged" (targeted) if you prefer, groups that had possible campaign fund raising as their objective and applied for a 501c4. 501c4's are designated as "social welfare" organizations that are not suppose to hold bias or exclusionary methods to raise money for the "social welfare" of the country. There were approx. 300 groups "flagged" and approx. 75 of those were groups that were flagged because of possible affiliation with single party political fund raising as their motive and some of those 75 had "tea party" in their name. The IRS is tasked with doing it's damn job with a law from the 50's with vague and contradictory language to try to filter out the bad actors to try to keep things on the right path dealing with 501c4 applicant's and they get ripped by the Republicans because they needed to single out some of the groups that shouldn't be running under a 501c4. Seems to me if anyone wants to bitch and whine about being singled out then the rest of the 300 can cry foul too and we can just let any conniving, corrupt group run a non-profit and the taxpayers can pick up the damn tab for any and every crook out there. GEEZUS, the IRS has to have some kind of friggin filter to try to do their jobs.

Con't.

Our group is a 501c3 animal rescue group and we are very careful about making sure we're running under the law and abide by the requirements. So the friggin republicans should get a pass????? Citizen's United can be thanked for muddying the waters on that one as if it doesn't do enough damage as it is. As usual with the rabid Right, they will dig and chew on any ole contrived bone they can find whether it is an actual problem or they have any proof or facts just because they can't accept that this country showed them the door in the last two Presidential elections. ANYTHING at all will do to smear this President. God Forbid, the black man would have a constructive administration, that might mean "another one" could get into office someday. They have been soundly spanked by the American People with a resounding "we don't want YOUR POLICIES" but as with all people that do not have a grasp on reality they will witch hunt instead of dealing with actual situations and problems that need to be solved for their own sorry ass ego's and insatiable quest for absolute power again. They are scared out of the their small minds that Hillary will kick their butts and she will, if she decides to run so it's "Katie bar the door" and if we can't find anything really real, we just feign outrage at every given turn and keep the crap pot stirred with lies, innuendo and slander. They've turned into a disgusting and corrosive party that can't do a thing except whine and accuse. Lord knows it's too much to ask to believe they could really do their jobs and pass some decent, common sense legislation that might help this nation. Hell No! If Americans feel too good or things start looking up it just might make this President look good. Can't have that at any cost, even if it means bringing this country to it's knees again. IF it is PROVEN that this was done at the President's request for political gain then we'll impeach him but I'll bet my house this is nothing more than a little IRS internal BS that the revenge driven Right smelled and thinks they can run it into the ground. As far as the AP situation, people need to get the facts on that too before they knee jerk and fall off the cliff too and if something nefarious was done there it needs to be dealt with but I suspect it's right on the edge of going too far and if so, you can thank little Georgie Boy for things being changed when he was wire tapping and searching phone records while running his vile administration and criminal war campaign. We used to be a country where you were innocent until PROOF positive was brought and you were convicted. Not anymore, it's grab any ole accusation and conspiracy theory and run it until you've screamed it long enough that the meme's and sheeple take it as the God's honest truth even if there's not a fact one in it. The Republicans and Tea Party insanity has to go in 2014 so our country can actually get real and serious work done. It won't happen as long as the hypocrites, racists and bigots can use their treasonous obstruction to hold the American majority, economy and democracy hostage every minute of the day.

Carrie, I'm sure you know the answer to that question....there are groups in the nation whose sole purpose is to bring down the President we elected!

Way to tell it Pam!! They just can't get it through their small minds we said NO!!!!!!!! to them and WE did elect THIS President. No President is perfect but I'll take our President Obama over ANYTHING or ANYBODY the vile Right has out there in a heartbeat. Reject Republicans in 2014 and forward. They've shown just how scummy they are and how low and small they can be. These latest "scandals" are the non-ceasing "witch hunts" they have tried since day one and it is the only MO and hate policy the Right has. They have to be made to pay for these kinds of disgusting politics with no regard to finding facts or truth. No genuine or honest American wants a government full of knee jerk, hateful, revengeful mini minds leading this country. We've had far too much of that in the past.
