There are many more defining features of Tea Party Republicans, ... hostility to political compromise, an impulse to destroy public programs instead of creating public solutions, and their arrogant claims that they represent a majority of Americans ...

Funny, the list are the things that would increase the profits of the Koch brothers and others that funded the TP...

I think the Randians who are the philosophical leaders of Tea Party have cut a "deal with the devil" as it were, with the Evangelicals who form a substantial part of the base of the GOP to support their hot button issue of banning abortion to gain a large piece of their support. Remember Rand herself was pro-choice, almost the only thing I agree with her on.

"There are many more defining features of Tea Party Republicans, such as the hostility to political compromise, an impulse to destroy public programs instead of creating public solutions, and their arrogant claims that they represent a majority of Americans when—as Pew’s poll demonstrates—they do not even fully represent the Republican Party."

Teabaggers are very ego centric --- I want what I want and now, plus I've got mine, screw you. The Teabaggers have no place in America.

I can think of a couple of more reasons but my sense of civility and my respect for my fellow care2 members prevents me from actually posting the words. Thanks Lynn

Teabaggers are a threat to America because they want to dismantle government.

Read an unbelievable article in Veterans today called Govt. shutdown and chinese gold. tea party are dysfunctional lot and the thought of them ever getting control of the US govt. from top down is frightful. Heritage Group, a think tank is no longer doing that; instead they act as another promotional front for the Tea party. Their negligence is undermining US credibility and China is creeping up on us. Of course, they will blame Obama; but this last debaucle nearly cost us and there is far more going on between Wall St. and health insurance. It is the same scam as the housing loans. GOP favors Wall st; the wealthy elites and are NOT for the middle class working folks.

Please do NOT think I like Obama or the democrats, I really think they are all bad and America deserves way better than what we have now.

They live in their own little world, oblivious of what is real. They would turn America back 100 years. Sarah Palin when she was in office as Governor of Alaska allowed so much blood to be shed of animals. She has no respect for animals, she really sucks!

And they owe us $24+ Billion dollars for their government shutdown. Bill 'em now and shut 'em down permanently. It would be well worth it!

For a bunch of people who bang on incessantly about freedom, they seem determined to destroy it. Do these twit think that they will actually get money from the banks they defend and the oil companies they champion? They obviously don't give a damn about their kids, they are going to leave them one hell of a mess.

Stark contrast between the Happiest Country on Earth, Denmark, and the Tea Party, You'll Never Guess Why. Hint: It isn't the weather.

Released Monday, the 2013 World Happiness Report ranks the happiest countries around the globe, with Denmark, Norway and Switzerland leading the pack. Among North American countries, Canada took sixth place, while Mexico (16) slightly outranked the U.S. (17).

"4. They think Wall St. should be deregulated. Even though 2008’s global economic collapse started on Wall Street with bad bets by investors on the U.S. housing market, 79 percent of Tea Partiers say that government had gone too far with “regulating financial institutions,” Pew said. That was 26 percent higher than non-Tea Party Republicans."

Do the Tea Party people actually want another repeat of the sub-prime debacle and
the bailout of Wall St. & the Bankers by deregulating those groups??

We need more regulations put back into place, the ones that were weakened,
eliminated since 1990 and newer regulations for the riskier investments. Reenact the
Glass-Steagall Act.

The more hateful and crazy they get, the more people will see just how nuts they are and disassociate with them. Their insanity will work against them, let them rant. Given enough rope, they will hang themselves.

"Pew found that 73 percent of Tea Partiers would cut funds to these retirement programs to pay down the federal debt, which, again, is consistent with their “I’ve got mine; go get yours” mentality."

Well, they certainly are out of step with most Americans on virtually all of those, but this one for sure. This is the aging white population of one percenters speaking. They don't need no stinking social security because they have bamboozled plenty of money out of the stock markets and bank ownerships already to not need nor want for anything for much longer than they will live. But this is also a tiny percentage of Americans because not even all one percenters agree with this idea of gutting programs for seniors. These people should be ashamed of themselves for their bigotry and hatred, not championing themselves as defenders of moral values their actions prove they don't believe in.

Perhaps they've hit some nerves?

Not being embedded in the Washington Bubble of favors given and received to retain their seats in Congress regardless of the cost to we the people -- who hired them in the first place to work for us -- this may just be a new beginning of repair to the Divided States of AmeriKa we have now undeniably become.

Those would be the top 10 reasons but there are a myriad of others. Their ignorance and intolerance is shocking and their elitism is on par with their suit and tie wearing GOP cousins.

#11 - They won't share the sandbox because they don't play well with others...sometimes not even between themselves. No amount of air freshener can take away the scent of pi** in the sandbox corners.

sheila L, you are derned right we deserve better. But Obama and the Democrats in Congess were the best we could get at the time. We are stuck with elections and can't effectively vote for anyone but the nomnees. Speaking of which, I hope everyone here who lives in the US will guard his or her own right to vote, and work to guard others' rights to vote, and work like crazy to get the vote out in 2014. This is what happened in 2010:

It MUST. NOT. happen again.

Only 10? There are hundreds of reasons.

Tea Twits are moronic. They love everything harmful and detest everything good.

LET'S GET REAL!
How can any group, be on the 'wrong' side of so many issues?

Dissatisfaction with the Tea Party was inevitable to any intellectually, thinking person.
When you thrive on selfishness and hatred, especially, in the form of racism, you will always lose in the end. Negativity is responsible for your own self-destruction.
Finally, truly religious people are coming to that conclusion, and it has taken far too long for the clergy to take steps toward positive morals and righteousness.

In fact, we can thank Pope Francis, for bringing this issue to the forefront. Remember, he was a Jesuit and the Jesuits have 4 demands of their members.
They are: _Poverty_, Chastity, Obedience to Christ, and Obedience to the Pope.
Let's see the extreme-right conservative Catholics deal with that.
Hey O'Reilly and Hannity, are you paying attention?

Stars all over the place! Wonderful comments that I couldn't better - but I do so agree with! The TP are just awful - extremist, stupid, delighting in their ignorance and reveling in their hatred of others, rampantly greedy and selfish.... oh so vile!
