In Memory of a Brave Soul : Marius

Posted on March 22, 2013 by Alain17 Comments

We see horrific cases of animal abuse almost each day where we live.
The society feels animals are items to conquer,to use and when they had enough of them, to dispose.

Each day , new faces appear in the shelters; some handicapped, some simply not good enough for people to adopt because of their breed, their temperament or color.Everything is itemized and categorized to fulfill an imaginary need we all seem to share , the pain we inflict on animals is just an extension of it.

Today we are going to share the story of one of these faces, his story makes him more than just a face in the crowd , it describes the degradation a society is currently undergoing.

It was a call from the shelter on a Saturday , the familiar voice of one of our friends filled with terror and pain was begging for help.
They had just brought in a cat in a horrible situation ; someone had chopped off all of his legs and tail.He would not live in the shelter.

What we saw when we reached the shelter was the most gruesome abuse case we have ever encountered , someone had literally pleased him-self by mutilating Marius , taking from him his legs and his tail, his ability to move and run , to defend him-self , his life.

Marius had miraculously survived the horrible attack , the pain his soul went though was still in his eyes , a pair of angry eyes staring at you to know whether or not you would hurt him just like the other one…

A pair of eyes that know he would not be able to defend him-self now.

Anger, frustration, sadness, madness…These are all human feelings , they stay within the boundaries of the norm . What I felt when I saw Marius and his eyes , his soul ,was more than a human feeling , I felt my soul died at that very moment.A part of my brain that remained ‘’the animal’’ went uncontrollable.

We had to give him back everything he lost , nothing would make up for what our kind did to his body and his soul but we owed that much to him….

In a rush we contacted clinicians from abroad , planning his treatment , the possibility of orthostetic devices to give him back the freedom to move and to forget the horrific incident.

Unfortunately Marius died within a couple of days before we could proceed to that kind of treatment. We are in a deep sorrow.

We are ashamed to be members of a race that is capable of this kind of torture.

Rest in peace Marius , and know that you are in a much better place now, free of pain , safe from the monster called the human being.

Rest in peace…
We won’t forget you…

i read this earlier today and couldn't deal with it. there are many awful stories of animal torture and killings on care2 but this one got to me more than others. i started crying and just felt sick. i can't imagine who or what could do such a thing. i don't even have the words for how i feel.
